Terre Haute, Ind. – Makenzie Wheat won the shot put and the Falcons added a pair of third-place finishes on the final day of the Gibson Invitational Saturday, hosted by Indiana State. Bowling Green finished in seventh place out of 13 teams in the final standings with 62 points.
Host Indiana State scored 124.5 points to edge out Missouri State with 122. Central Michigan was third with 93 and Eastern Illinois followed with 83.5. Illinois State had 81 and Northern Illinois scored 67 to finish just in front of the Falcons. BGSU defeated Marquette (30), Milwaukee (26), Loyola (24), Western Michigan (16), Valparaiso (5) and Bradley (1).
Wheat continued to dominate in the shot put, as she has so far during the outdoor season. Already the Mid-American Conference's leader in the event, Wheat won the Gibson Invitational with a throw of 49-feet-9. In fact, her second-best throw would have also won the meet. Teammate Aliyah Gustafson, who ranks second in the MAC in the shot put, finished fourth at 47-0.75.
Raven Porter finished third in the high jump as she cleared 5-5.25 and the 400 relay team of Tiera Parker, Alicia Arnold, Kera Lamotte and Dorresha Green were also third in a season-best time of 46.88 seconds.
Taylor Rambo was fourth in the 400 as she was clocked at 56.59 seconds, a season-best for her. In the 100, both Lamotte and Green qualified for finals. Lamotte had a personal best 12.20 to finish eighth in the championship heat and Green ran 12.19 in the prelims before a 12.25 in the finals for a ninth place finish.
In the 200, Lamotte placed ninth as the top Falcon finisher in 24.88. Arnold was just behind in 10th at 24.95 and Cortisha Short set a new personal best of 25.20 to finish 13th. Rachel Durbin earned a season-best time in the 1500 to place 13th in 4:50.60. The 1600 relay team of Cheyenne Oswald, Natalee Cole, Brianna Johnson and Gabrielle Edwards posted the best time of the season for BGSU in 3:56.89 to end ninth.
Bowling Green will be back in action this weekend at the Ball State Challenge. The meet takes place Friday and Saturday in Muncie.
