BGSU Football's Ben Steward Donates Bone Marrow To Save A Life

Bowling Green, Ohio - Ben Steward will be a redshirt senior offensive lineman for the Bowling Green State University football team in 2016. But the impact he has made off the field will certainly be more significant than anything he does in an effort to help guide the Falcons to a fourth consecutive Mid-American Conference Championship Game appearance. Through the "Be The Match" program (https://bethematch.org), Steward was determined to be the perfect donor for bone marrow stem cells for a 31-year old woman with leukemia.
The "Be The Match" program was instituted by former football coach Dave Clawson and involves a simple cheek swab from donors. From there, donors are registered to be possible bone marrow donors. Steward was found to be the best match in the entire country to save the life of a 32-year old woman. Fans can hear the rest of his story through the video above.
**UPDATE** Steward was contacted approximately a week ago and was told that the 31-year old woman has been released from the hospital and that all is progressing well. He will get another update in three months and, if all continues to go well, will be able to find out more details about her in about 10 months.
