- Under head coach Kerrie Turner, the Falcons qualified to NCAA Regionals as a team for the first time since 1991. BGSU scored a 193.850 inside of Coleman Coliseum on the campus of University of Alabama.
CONFERENCE AWARDS
- BGSU led the MAC this season in weekly awards, totaling seven.
- Laura Mitchell earned MAC Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 26 as she recorded a first place finish on balance beam and two second-place finishes on floor and uneven bars versus Alaska Anchorage.
- Victoria Heath was tabbed MAC Gymnast of the Week on March 1 for her performance against Ball State. The junior tied two personal best scores and recorded another personal best in the three apparatuses she competed on (vault, beam, floor).
- The Falcons tied their program-high with five student-athletes receiving the award of Academic All-MAC. Senior Caroline Ellingboe (3.607, graphic design), junior Lauren Feely (4.00, inclusive early childhood), sophomore Shannon Goniwiecha (3.888, biology), senior Alyssa Nocella (3.775, exercise science) and junior Rachel Reis (4.00, exercise science) all earned the award.
- Nocella: She now joins Megan Harrington as the only two gymnasts in program history to be named Academic All-MAC three straight years. Nocella also won Female Scholar Athlete of the Week (Feb. 17) and two Gymnast of the Week awards this season (Feb. 15, March 15). She was named First-Team All-MAC, as well as Senior Gymnast of the Year, which was voted on by the league coaches. Nocella is the third ever Falcon to win the Senior Gymnast of the Year award, joining Melissa Popovich (2004) and Marny Oestreng (1999).
- Feely: She was named Female Scholar Athlete of the Week on Jan. 27 and Gymnast of the Week on Feb. 2. The junior was tabbed Second-Team All-MAC.
- Together, Feely and Reis earned two of the conference's four total 4.0 grade point averages.
TEAM
- BGSU finished third at MAC Championships, scoring a 195.625, the highest mark at a conference championship in school history and good for 10th in the BGSU record books.
- The third-place finish is the team's best since 2014.
- The Orange and Brown boasted two individual MAC Champions in Mitchell and Feely.
- On Senior Night (March 12), the Falcons earned a 196.500, demolishing the previous school best of 196.100. The last time BGSU scored 49.000 pluses on all four events was back in 2005 when the team set what was then a school-record of 196.100.
- At the meet, BG's success showed on all four events, as the team recorded multiple 9.900s on one event on two separate occasions at the meet (beam, floor). This feat alone had yet to happen in the Turner era, and BGSU managed to accomplish this twice in one day.
- Against the Huskies, the Falcons also broke the then-beam school record of 49.200. Mitchell earned a 9.900, Ellingboe tied her career-high with a 9.900, Feely bettered her career-high with a 9.825, Nocella also received a 9.825, and Heath rounded out the top five with a 9.750, tying her career-best.
- At MAC Championships, BGSU broke its own school record, previously set against NIU, on balance beam with a 49.250, as the team finished second on the event. Mitchell's 9.925 paced the Falcons, as Ellingboe scored a 9.875. Feely earned a career-high 9.850 on the apparatus and Nocella received an identical score, as Reis scored a 9.750.
- Overall, the Falcons posted 10 scores of 9.900 or higher, compared to two in 2015 and in four in 2014.
INDIVIDUALS
- Mitchell won balance beam at MAC Championships, tying a school record 9.925.
- Feely placed first in all-around at MACs, earning a 39.300. The program hasn't had an all-around champion since 2001 (Marny Oestreng).
- The last time the Orange and Brown had two conference champions was three seasons ago (2013) when Nocella and Jamilah Ali won beam and vault, respectively.
- Nocella holds five of the 10 scores posted of 9.900 or better this season. Mitchell has earned three, and Feely and Ellingboe each have one a piece.
- Twelve out of the 13 gymnasts that competed this season tied or bettered career-bests from previous seasons.
