Falcons Add Jeffrey Uju to 2016 Signing Class
April 26, 2016 | Men's Basketball
Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University men's basketball head coach Michael Huger is thrilled to announce the signing of Jeffrey Uju (JE-free OO-joo) (Bolingbrook, Ill./Western Texas College/Oak Hill Academy) to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to continue his academic and athletic career as a Falcon beginning in the summer of 2016.
A 6-7, 225 pound forward, Uju will have two years of eligibility remaining after playing last season at Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas.
"I am thrilled to have Jeff Uju join our program for the next two seasons. Jeff is an extremely bright young man who has the world of potential on and off the basketball court. His ability to shoot the basketball and use a ball screen from the forward position is a great fit for our offensive system," Coach Huger stated. "At 6-7 with a 7-1.5 wing span, he has great height and length which will give him the opportunity to contribute immediately. We are expecting Jeff to bring a great deal of leadership to our program in the classroom, locker room and on the court. The Bowling Green community will love the impact this young man has on our program and our University."
As a sophomore in 2015-16, Uju played in 29 games and made 25 starts for the Westerners who finished the year at 17-13 overall. He averaged 7.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game on the season and shot 46.6 percent from the field overall and 45.5 percent from behind the three-point line. Third on the team in both rebounding and blocked shots, Uju also shot 74.5 percent from the free throw line on the year. He scored in double figures in eight different contests, including a season-high 17 points in an 88-70 win versus Panola College.
Prior to transferring to Western Texas College, Uju played his freshman year at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington, Wyoming in 2014-15. As a freshman, he played in 26 games on the season, making 12 starts. He averaged 6.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, including scoring a season-high 15 points twice. He shot 77.8 percent from the free throw line and 34.7 percent from the field overall on the year.
Originally from Bolingbrook, Illinois, just outside of Chicago, Uju played his high school ball at nationally recognized Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. Named to the MaxPreps Class of 2014 Watch List his senior season, the Warriors finished the year at 41-4 overall and ranked No. 3 overall in the nation.
Uju joins fellow 2016 signees Justin Turner (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance H.S.), who also signed with the Falcons this spring, as well as Dylan Frye (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Mater Academy) and Rodrick Caldwell (Dayton, Ohio/Wayne H.S.), who both signed with BGSU back in November 2015.
