Bowling Green Wraps Up Five-Game Road Stretch At Youngstown State Wednesday

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team will conclude a five-game road swing on Wednesday, April 27, at Youngstown State. The ballgame is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start time at Eastwood Field.
"Last week, we were able to beat a really good Wright State team in our midweek game, and I think that gave us some momentum heading into the weekend," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "This week, we are on the road again, taking on a very good Youngstown State program. This is a team and program that I respect a lot. We always enjoy taking on in-state schools."
Bowling Green is coming off a very impressive 3-1 week. On April 19, the Falcons knocked off the 28-12 Wright State Raiders in 10 innings in Dayton, Ohio by a score of 7-6. Greg Basalyga – who registered three RBI in the game – hit the go-ahead double in the 10th, before Tony Landi secured the win in the bottom of the frame.
Over the weekend, the Falcons handed Ball State its first conference series loss since May of 2015. Ball State headed into the weekend with the best record in the conference. The Cardinals still sit atop of the MAC West standings.
Bowling Green won Friday's (April 22) game, 5-1, before falling the next day, 3-1. On Sunday (April 24), Bowling Green won in dramatic fashion. Leading by a score of 8-7, Landi induced a game-ending double play with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning. On the weekend, Ball State scored a total of 11 runs. The Cardinals entered play averaging over 10 runs per MAC game.
Youngstown State currently owns an 8-26 record, including a 3-12 mark in Horizon League play. As a team, the Penguins are hitting .221, while the pitching staff owns an ERA of 6.37. Last season, the Penguins beat the Falcons in both matchups. Tomorrow's game will be the 10th meeting all-time between the two schools, with Youngstown State holding leading the series lead, 6-3.
Following the midweek ballgame, the Falcons will return to Steller Field to take on the Northern Illinois University Huskies over April 29–May 1. Friday's (April 29) game is set to begin at 3:05 p.m., while the Saturday (April 30) and Sunday (May 1) games will start at 1:05 p.m.
