Men’s Basketball Signs Justin Turner to an NLI
April 21, 2016 | Men's Basketball
Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program and head coach Michael Huger are excited to announce the addition of Justin Turner (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance H.S.) to the Falcon family. Turner signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to continue both his academic and athletic career at BGSU beginning in the summer of 2016.
"I am excited to add Justin Turner to our 2016 recruiting class. Justin is a multi-dimensional guard who will provide value in multiple areas. His skill set is a terrific fit for our style of play and he will have the opportunity to come in and earn valuable minutes as a freshman," remarked Coach Huger. "Justin's ability to handle the basketball, use the pick and roll, and create shots for himself and others will make him an exciting player for our fans to watch. Justin is a high character individual, who my staff and I believe will be a terrific ambassador, on and off the court, for both our program and BGSU."
A 6-4 combo guard from just up the road in Detroit, Michigan, Turner averaged 21.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game in 2015-16 as a senior. Named to the 2015-16 MLive Detroit Dream Team Third-Team, Turner led his team to a Division I District Finals appearance and to the Public School League (PSL) Championship, posting an overall record of 17-5 on the season.
Ranked as high as 10th overall in the state of Michigan for the 2016 class by Bank Hoops, Turner was named to the 2015-16 Detroit Free Press All-Detroit First-Team, the 2015-16 Detroit News All-Detroit First-Team and the 2015-16 Detroit PSL All-City First-Team. He was also named to the All-State Class a Second-Team by the Detroit News.
As a junior in 2014-15, Turned averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists to help guide the Phoenix to an overall record of 13-8 and an appearance in the Detroit PSL Championship game.
Turner joins fellow 2016 signees Dylan Frye (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Mater Academy) and Rodrick Caldwell (Dayton, Ohio/Wayne H.S.) who signed in November 2015.
