
Falcons Hand Out Awards At Senior Banquet

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University hockey program held its annual Senior Banquet Saturday evening at the Stroh Center. Although three of the team's five seniors were unable to attend due to minor league hockey obligations, numerous players were recognized with team awards, head coach Chris Bergeron spoke and team highlight videos were shown.
Athletics Director Chris Kingston presented Bergeron with a game puck for his 100th career victory, which came in a 5-0 win over Alabama Huntsville to close the regular season. Seniors Tommy Burke and Jose Delgadillo both spoke about their four-year careers. Mark Cooper, Ben Murphy and Brent Tate have already begun playing hockey at the next level.
Junior Matt Pohlkamp earned the team's Jack Gregory Scholar-Athlete Award. Junior captain Sean Walker was the Dr. Ron Zwierlein Leadership Award winner and Cooper earned the Sam Cooper Leading Scorer Award. Burke was named the Howard Brown Coaches Award winner and equipment manager Scott Jess was the Dr. Tom Wojciechowski Recognition Award winner for special service to the team.
Sophomore Tyler Spezia was named the Bill and Helen Lloyd Most Improved Player and Stephen Baylis was the Rookie of the Year. Sophomore goalie Chris Nell took home both the Jim Ruehl Best Defensive Player Award and the Jim Sears Most Valuable Player Award.
BGSU Hockey finished the season with a record of 22-14-6 and 16-7-5 in the WCHA. The Falcons ended third in the league standings and advanced to the WCHA semifinals for the third consecutive year. Bowling Green has posted back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in 20 years.
