Falcons Start Four-Game Home Stand With Matchup Versus Dayton Wednesday
April 11, 2016 | Baseball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team returns to Steller Field on Wednesday, April 13, to take on the University of Dayton. The ballgame, which starts at 3:05 p.m., marks the beginning of a four-game home stand.
"We are certainly excited to get back to Steller Field this week," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "We played some good baseball the last time we played at home. These are four very important games for our team. Dayton is an in-state opponent that we respect very much, and we will have to execute in the three phrases in order to get a win."
The two schools were scheduled to play earlier in the year on March 1 in Dayton, but the game was cancelled due to inclement weather. Wednesday's game will serve as the only game this season played between the Falcons and Flyers.
Bowling Green is coming off a tough 0-4 week, having lost at No. 17 Michigan on April 6 before being swept over the weekend at Miami. Bowling Green now owns an 11-21 record with 22 games left in the season. Freshman Riley Minorik was a huge bright spot last week.
In BGSU's four games, Minorik went 5-for-13 with two home runs, two doubles, four RBI and three runs scored. Minorik hit a home run in both games of Sunday's doubleheader at Miami. All but one of the freshman's hits on the week went for extra bases, and he racked up 13 total bases in 13 at-bats.
Dayton will enter play Wednesday with a 10-21 record. The Flyers are 3-6 in Atlantic 10 Conference play. Dayton is playing some good baseball as of late, and went 3-1 last week. The Flyers knocked off Butler in midweek action, before taking two of three versus George Mason over the weekend.
The Falcons defeated Dayton last season by a score of 9-1, and last lost to the Flyers during the 2011 season. The Orange and Brown have won three-consecutive ballgames against Dayton, and hold a 44-20 advantage in the all-time series.
After Wednesday's game, the Falcons will return to Mid-American Conference play with a three-game set against Ohio University across April 15-17. Friday's game will start at 3:05 p.m., with the Saturday and Sunday games slated for 1:05 p.m.
