Bowling Green, Ohio –Bowling Green State University won 14-of-19 events Friday evening as the Falcons defeated Toledo 111-86 in the annual dual meet between the two track and field programs. BGSU defeated its archrival for the fourth consecutive year.
Â
The Falcons earned 12 non-relay victories from 12 different student-athletes and added wins in both relay races as well. In total, 16 different Falcons picked up a win in either an individual event or relay race. Tiera Parker and Taylor Rambo won both an individual race and a relay, while Kera Lamotte and Dorresha Green competed on both winning relay teams.
Â
"The conditions were a little dicey at points," BGSU Head Coach Lou Snelling said. "We handled it well. We competed despite the conditions. The team stayed focused."
Â
The Falcons won every sprint event, led by Parker's 12.17 second victory in the 100. Gabrielle Edwards won the 200 and Cheyenne Oswald picked up a victory in the 400. Demetra Taylor and Rambo posted wins in the 100 hurdles and 400 hurdles, respectively, while BGSU raced to victories in both the 400 relay and 1600 relay.
Â
The Falcons were almost as dominant in the mid-distance and distance races. Cassandra Boyle won the 800 and Elena Lancioni won the 3000. Andrea Alt pulled away for a 2000 steeplechase victory. Although Toledo won the 1500, Jasmine Redman and Becca Rae finished second and third, with both setting personal bests in the event.
Â
In the jumps, Jade Nolan finished first in the long jump and Kyla Paster was first in the triple jump. Nolan earned a Mid-American Conference automatic qualifying mark – the Falcons' fifth of the year – in her long jump win and posted the third-best performance in the league this year.
Â
BGSU also earned two wins in the four throws as Makenzie Wheat posted a season-best in the shot put and Kayla Velasquez had a personal best in the hammer throw. In the shot put, not only did Wheat toss the best throw in the MAC this year, but Aliyah Gustafson had the second-best throw in the conference and moved into third-place all-time in the event at BGSU. Wheat already ranks second in school history. Velasquez's throw in the hammer ranks second in the conference this year.
Â
Not only did the Falcons post strong performances at the top, but the team also flexed its depth. The Falcons took both first and second place in five events, earned the top three places in the 100 and swept the top four spots in the long jump.
BGSU will move on to compete at the Gibson Invitational, hosted by Indiana State, beginning Thursday. The three-day meet takes place in Terre Haute, Ind.
