Narro, Wheat Named Vito's Athletes Of The Week

Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Vito's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are golfer Jose Narro and track and field thrower Makenzie Wheat.
Male Athlete of the Week
Jose Narro, a junior from Tampico, Mexico, saved his best for last this week, as the junior fired a final round 70, -2 under par, on Tuesday to leap up the individual leaderboard at the Lone Star Invitational to finish in a tie for 26th-place overall. His final round of 70, -2 under par, was tied for the third lowest 18-hole score on the day. Narro, who entered the final day of play in a tie at 52nd-place, finished his two days of play with rounds of 73, 83 and 70 for a 54-hole score of 226, +10. The Tampico, Mexico native, who played high school golf in the state of Texas, tallied four straight birdies from holes 11 to 14 and finished the day with a total of six birdies and eight pars. Over his 54-holes of play, Narro recorded a team-high nine birdies to go along with 27 pars.
Female Athlete of the Week
Makenzie Wheat, a junior from Aurora, Ind., placed second overall at the Raleigh Relays, including first among collegiate throwers, in the shot put to open the season with one of the top 10 marks in program history. Wheat threw 50-feet-3.5 for the sixth-best performance in program history. Four of her six tosses surpassed the MAC's automatic qualifying mark of 47-7 and it places her 15th in the East region after the weekend, as well as 38th nationally.
