ATLANTA, Ga. – Bowling Green State University swim team member Daniela Carrillo competed in the 200 breaststroke on Saturday morning, closing out her final race as a Falcon at the 2016 NCAA Championships in the McAuley Aquatic Center.
The event, where she came in seeded 29th, was Carrillo's second race of the weekend. She finished by touching in a time of 2:12.57. At the 2013 NCAA Championships, Carrillo finished 37th in the prelims of the 200 breaststroke, swimming a time of 2:12.89.
On Friday morning, Carrillo swam a time of 1:00.60 to place 26th in 100 breaststroke in the prelims. It was the second-best time in school history, where she holds the school record at 1:00.57 which she set at the 2016 MAC Championship. The senior came into the event seeded 36th and improved 10 spots thanks to her strong prelim swim. Carrillo placed 36th overall in the 100 breaststroke as a freshman at the 2013 NCAA Championships, touching in a time of 1:01.31.
Additionally, freshman Claire Stam competed at Zone C Diving Championships on March 11-12. She competed in the 3 meter on Friday, scoring a 197.6 and earned a 206.50 in the 1 meter. It marked the first time BGSU had a diver qualify to the Zone Championships since the program was brought back to the University.
The 2015-16 season for Bowling Green swimming and diving comes to an end, highlighted by a third-place finish at the MAC Championships, six All-MAC Falcons, and marked the first time since 1994 that BGSU has had two MAC Champions in one season (Carrillo, 200 breaststroke, Franziska Wohlert, 400 IM).
