February 08, 2016 | General, Ice Hockey, Women's Track and Field
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Vito's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are hockey player Mark Cooper and track and field sprinter Alicia Arnold.
Male Athlete of the Week
Mark Cooper, a senior from Toronto, Ontario, scored two goals as Bowling Green hockey earned a weekend split at WCHA leader Minnesota State in a 3-1 win Saturday. Cooper's first goal put the Falcons ahead 1-0 late in the first period. After Minnesota State had tied the game, Cooper cleaned up a loose puck in front of the net and scored a power play goal to put the Falcons ahead for good. It was Cooper's fourth game-winning goal of the year, putting him ninth in the country in that stat. Cooper has now scored eight goals in 11 career games against Minnesota State.
