Falcons Currently Fourth After Day Two Of MAC Championships

Nine top 10 swims in program history highlight day two of action

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – After posting nine individual top 10 swims in program history on Thursday, the Bowling Green State University swimming and diving team currently sits in fourth after two days of the 2016 Mid-American Conference Championships. The Falcons have 160 points after qualifying nine swimmers for finals during day the second day of action at Cooper Pool.

"We had several strong swims today which was good to see as we continue striving for our best swims this weekend," head coach Matt Ense said. "We must continue to compete with great focus and energy while staying relaxed and having fun all weekend long."

The highlight of the day was the 200 Individual Medley, which saw the Orange and Brown score 44 points. In total, BGSU recorded five swims inside the top 10 in school history in the 200 IM on Thursday. Kristin Filby's time of 2:02.60 won the B finals and was the fifth-best swim in school history. She was closely followed by Franziska Wohlert, who finished second in the B finals with a time of 2:02.62 – sixth-best in school history. Daniela Carrillo (7th & 9th in school history) and Emily Verbrugge (10th in school history) qualified for the A final in the event, finishing sixth and seventh respectively.

In the freestyle events, two Falcons each registered multiple top 10 swims throughout the second day of competition. Victoria Griffin (23.17, 6th/23.24, 8th) finished fourth in the B final of the 50 free to score for the Falcons, while Natalie Criswell (4:54.63, 9th/4:55.05, 10th) finished fourth in the A finals of the 500 free. Both Alexandra Poitinger (4:57.68) and Mary Edwards (4:59.34) swam in the B final of the 500 free.

Bowling Green's 200 free relay team of Griffin, Kayla Effinger, Maya Skorupski and Hannah Newman placed fifth with a time of 1:32.59.
