BGSU Takes Steps To Preserve The History Of Athletics Via Partnership With Heritage Werks

Athletic Archives Highlight The Storied History of BGSU Athletics

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University Department of Athletics has partnered with Heritage Werks, a specialist agency that builds and manages strategic archives, to organize, preserve and digitize the Cochrane/Cunningham Archives. Items that had previously been located in the Hall of Fame area of the Stroh Center, as well as stored in a variety of locations across campus, have been packed and shipped to Atlanta. This partnership was made possible through the generous donations of the University's lacrosse alumni.

The Cochrane/Cunningham Archives has been collected over the course of 35 years by the late Don Cunningham and Mickey Cochrane -- both members of BGSU's Athletics Hall of Fame. Cunningham spent 33 years at BGSU in a variety of roles including serving as the department's for sports information director, as well as athletic ticket manager, golf coach, assistant athletics director, associate athletics director, and athletic business manager. The press box at Doyt Perry Stadium is named the Don Cunningham Press Box in his honor.

Cochrane was the father and architect of BGSU's men's soccer and lacrosse programs. He was also an associate professor at BGSU and serves as the curator of the Athletics Archives. The University soccer field was named in his honor in 1980.
