Training Trip Final Day
December 23, 2016 | Women's Swimming & Diving
Naples, FL – The Bowling Green State University swimmers and divers are now finished with their annual training trip for the 2016-17 season, which they spent at Naples, Florida.
The Falcons are only two months away from finishing the 2016-17 season. Quoting second year head coach, Matt Ense, "Training trip is not only a time for the swimmers and divers to work hard, but also to do some quality team bonding. Also with school being done, they can put all of their focus on their practices and recovery time, which is crucial at this point of the season".
Junior Falcon, Natalie Criswell has been blogging daily to keep fans updated. You can find her last blog below:
Well that's a wrap! 2016 training trip is over, and it was a week for the books. Over the last 6 days we have completed 17 practices-10 water workouts, 3 cross fit classes, and 4 spin classes. The week has been exhausting to say the least, but also filled with so many laughs, great food, amazing people and memories that will last a life time. Our last day in Naples started at 5:15 with swim practice for mid distance and distance swimmers, and a boot camp class at Greater Naples YMCA for the sprinters. For mid distance and distance swimmers the practice consisted of long IM work and kicking before we split into groups. The mid distance swimmers stretched it out with longer swims descending with equipment and kick set with descending intervals. The distance swimmers worked their arms with a long pull set working on negative splitting their swims. This was our seniors last long course meters workout ever. For swimmers, the next practice would be at 1:15pm, meanwhile divers headed to their last practice of the trip. Sophomore diver Ashley White said it was cool to see how they progressed with diving outside. As I mentioned before, diving outside is very difficult; in addition, our diving boards at BGSU are on concrete platforms where these boards are not, adding an element of shakiness to dives. At 1:15, the swimmers headed to their last afternoon practice, where were divided into 3 groups: sprint, mid distance, and distance. Sprinters did a lot of 25m sprints with fast breakouts, and relays. Mid distance swimmers raced from the blocks, practicing proper breakouts and parts of their races, while using equipment. Distance did multiple 500's on different intervals, practicing different race strategies, and ended with some all out sprint 100's. It was a very difficult practice for everyone, but a great way to end our water workouts. After swim we headed to our last cross fit class of the trip. We got into groups and did stations and ended with tabata training ab work. To end a hard days work, the coaches took the upperclassmen out for a hibachi dinner; it was so much fun and delicious. We are so lucky to have spent the last week in Naples, it has been an amazing trip.
The Falcons will be back in action on January 13th as they travel to Washington D.C. for a double dual meet against Georgetown University and George Washington University, which will start at 5PM.
