Bob Schnelker, Member Of Inaugural Athletics Hall Of Fame Class, Passes Away

Bob Schnelker, a member of the inaugural BGSU Athletics Hall of Fame class, passed away Dec. 12 at the age of 88 in Naples, Fla. Among other notable achievements, Schnelker was a two-time Pro Bowler (1958 and 1959) and offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers.
Schnelker played nine seasons in the NFL as a tight end following an outstanding collegiate career at BGSU. He was drafted in the 29th round of the 1950 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns and was a member of the 1956 NFL Champion New York Giants. From 1963-1989, he served in various roles on coaching staffs of the Los Angeles Rams, Green Bay Packers, San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings.
At BGSU, Schnelker was a two-time All-Ohio selection. He caught 53 passes for 16 touchdowns, while also competing on the track and field team. He was a member of the inaugural class of the BGSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1964, along with Wyndol Gray, Jack Hecker, Ivan Lake, Charles Share and Franklin Skibbie.
