Training Trip Day One
December 18, 2016 | Women's Swimming & Diving
Naples, FL – The Bowling Green State University swimmers and divers are currently enjoying the sun at Naples, Florida, as they focus on their training trip for the 2016-17 season.
The Falcons are only two months away from finishing the 2016-17 season. Quoting second year head coach, Matt Ense, "Training trip is not only a time for the swimmers and divers to work hard, but also to do some quality team bonding. Also with school being done, they can put all of their focus on their practices and recovery time, which is crucial at this point of the season".
Junior Falcon, Natalie Criswell will be blogging daily to keep fans updated. You can find her blog for the first day of training trip below:
Saturday, 12/17/16 - Day One
Well we finally made it; everyone has arrived in Naples Florida and what a first day it has been. The day started at 7:00 am with bagels on the beach, which included some beautiful views and a dolphin sighting! After that we loaded up the vans and drove to the local YMCA where we took a spin class. Now this wasn't your ordinary spin class, this was 60 straight minutes of sweating, wheezing, and very fast peddling; it was exhausting to say the least. Before going back to the condos, we went to the local grocery store to stock up on food for the week. After we were all done shopping the swimmers had a couple hours of down time, and the divers headed to practice at Golden Gates Community Park Pool. This was their first time diving outside--diving outside is much harder than inside, as it is more difficult to spot where you are in the air, consequently increasing your chances of smacking. While the divers were at practice, most of the swimmers rested on the beach and prepared for their next practice. This year we are staying at Vanderbilt Beach Resort, just a short walk across the street from the Gulf of Mexico. At 1:15pm the swimmers headed to YMCA Norris pool for their second practice of the day. Most of the time the team is split into groups to train based on the events one swims, but because this was our first practice together in a while we all stayed together in one group. Our practice was full of under waters and fast break outs, while also using lots of equipment, making for a difficult practice though swimming under the sun made it easier. After swim practice, the whole team met up and headed over to Blaze Crossfit for our first class together as a team. Crossfit is one of the teams' favorite activities on training trip as it is something we don't do on a regular basis, so it's a really nice change of pace. After a long day of working out we drove back to the condos where we were treated to homemade lasagna from Hannah Albion's parents who live in Fort Meyers and Christmas cookies made by our very own Kylie Bosco and Bekah Perry. What a great first day! We are so lucky to be in Florida and cant wait for another hard day of training tomorrow. Our first practice tomorrow will be a 5:15 am under the lights at YMCA Norris Pool.
Keep up with your Falcons at training trip daily, as they get ready for the final part of the 2016-17 season.
