Senior striker named to Scholar All-Region, All-America Teams
Bowling Green State University men's soccer standout Pat Flynn has earned several prestigious academic honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Flynn was named to the NSCAA's Scholar All-East Region First Team, and on Thursday afternoon (Dec. 15), he was selected to the NSCAA Scholar All-America Second Team.

A native of Naperville, Ill. (Central H.S.), Flynn was one of the most dangerous strikers in the MAC during his three years with the Falcons. This week's awards are just the latest in a veritable plethora of honors he has earned during that time.
Flynn started all 19 matches this fall, and had 14 points on five goals and four assists. His goal total included the game-winning tally in BG's victory over then nationally-ranked West Virginia in the MAC opener. He had a two-goal game vs. Appalachian State, and also scored in a win over Wright State and a tie vs. Akron.
Flynn was named to both the All-Mid-American Conference First Team and the MAC's All-Tournament Team in 2016. He led the Brown and Orange in scoring in each of his three seasons.
In just three years at BGSU, Flynn moved into the school's career top 10 in several categories. Flynn finished his BG tenure ranked seventh in school history in goals, with 28, and he is tied for eighth in career points, with 68. He ranks fourth in BG history with nine career game-winning goals.
Flynn, who has a 3.875 cumulative GPA as an accounting and finance major, was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team in late November, becoming the first three-time Academic All-American in program history. Flynn also is the first player in BGSU men's soccer history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America First-Team honors twice.
According to the NSCAA's release, student-athletes receiving Scholar All-America recognition at these levels meet the following criteria:
>> 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) or better throughout career
>> Start more than 50 percent of all games and significantly contribute to their team
>> Nominated by head coach of current NSCAA College Services member institution
>> Junior or above in academic standing; and, if a transfer student, in second year at school
BGSU finished with an overall record of 9-6-4 in 2016, and the Falcons went 2-0-3 in MAC play. BG – picked to finish fifth in the six-team league in the preseason coaches' poll – placed second in the final regular-season standings, for the program's best finish since 2002. The Falcons went undefeated in the MAC for the first time in 20 years, and BGSU also was unbeaten at home for the first time in two decades.
