EDINA, Minn. – The Western Collegiate Hockey Association has announced Mitch McLain of the Bowling Green hockey team as Player of the Month, after the junior forward tallied 11 points in November's eight games.
Leading the Falcons offensively, McLain marked five goals and six assists in the month of November, upping his season total to seven goals, 10 assists and 17 points. McLain's highlight of November came in the 8-3 conference win over Alabama Huntsville, in which the Baxter, Minn. native marked his first career hat trick. McLain also had an assist in the Saturday night win helping lift the Falcons to the weekend sweep, which also earned him a career-high of a four point night.
Most recently, McLain marked his ninth career and third multi-point night of the season by tallying two assists in the 3-0 shutout of Alaska Anchorage. The assists came on Tyler Spezia's game-winning goal as well as on Casey Linkenheld's first career goal.
Last week, McLain was also named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week after scoring the game-winner in the 3x3 second overtime against Alaska Anchorage to lift the Falcons to a 4-3 conference win on Friday night, followed by his pair of assists on Saturday night. It was his third career Player of the Week honors, while it is now his first career Player of the Month award.
McLain currently marks a team-leading plus/minus of +11, and is only one point shy of his 18 earned in his sophomore season with more than half of the season remaining. Individually in the WCHA, McLain is second overall in goals, third in assists and fourth in points.
The Bowling Green hockey program will be on the road this weekend at Lake Superior State for WCHA play, before returning back to the BGSU Ice Arena next weekend for more conference play against Michigan Tech on Dec. 9-10.
