Joseph Davidson Named Academic All-District
November 03, 2016 | Football
Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University redshirt junior Joseph Davidson was named Academic All-District Thursday, as voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Davidson will now be placed on the ballot for the prestigious Academic All-American team.
Davidson carries a 3.94 grade point average with a double major in finance and mathematics. He earned Academic All-District recognition a year ago and was second team Academic All-America. He is also a two-time Academic All-MAC selection and two time MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete.
One of the best punters in the country, Davidson ranks fifth in the nation with a 47.0 yard per punt average. He has been named the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week and has eight punts that have traveled 60 yards or more, easily the most in the country. His 82-yard punt at Toledo remains the longest in FBS football this year. His net punting average of 44.49 yards is second in the nation.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada, with District 5 comprising all student-athletes from Division I schools in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. To be nominated, a student-athlete must hold at least sophomore status, be a starter or key reserve, and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of CoSIDA members within the district.
This is the sixth year of the expanded Academic All-America program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
