BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team and head coach Kerrie Turner have announced the addition of four athletes for the 2018 season. Whitney Cronin, Alexandra Fochler, Nacaida Kearns and Samantha Marion have signed their national letters of intent and will join the team in the fall of 2017. The new Falcons hail from four different states – Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and North Carolina.

"With great excitement and anticipation, I am pleased to welcome Nacaida, Whitney, Alex and Sammy to the BGSU Gymnastics program, " said Turner. "Signing the National Letter of Intent is truly the beginning of their commitment to BGSU, and this group of gymnasts will bring a tremendous amount of talent to the program. I expect we will see an immediate impact on all four events from this group."

Cronin is a native of High Point, N.C. and attends Southwest Guilford High School. She is a three-time Junior Olympic regional qualifier and a 2016 Junior Olympic national alternate. Cronin is the daughter of Jon and Barb Cronin and is currently undecided on a major.

She plans to major in early childhood education.

Marion calls Franklin Lakes, N.J. home and attends Ramapo High School. She has earned four letters as a member of the Raiders and helped the team win county and sectional championships in each of those four seasons. In 2016, she was named all-county and was silver medalist on vault at the New Jersey state championships. She was the New Jersey balance beam champion in 2014 and 2015. BGSU begins their 2017 season on Saturday, Jan. 7 in University Park, Pa. against Penn State, Temple and Brigham Young. The Falcons seek to build on momentum established at the end of the 2016 season, when they set a school record for points in a meet (196.500 vs NIU), finished third at the MAC Championships, and advanced to the NCAA regionals for the first time in 25 years.
