Thirteen Falcons Named NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes

A total of 13 Bowling Green State University softball student-athletes have earned Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for their academic excellence during the 2015-16 academic year. BGSU also made the list of the NFCA's top academic teams, coming in at 29th among all Division I institutions.

With a team grade-point average of 3.458 for the 2015-16 academic year, BGSU was the highest-ranking Ohio school on the list. The Falcons ranked second among Mid-American Conference teams, just one spot behind 28th-ranked Eastern Michigan University (3.459).
BGSU's lengthy list of individual honorees includes Briana Combs, Amanda Durham, Alivia Forshey, Kayla Gregory, Katee Hinkle, Sami Parave, Brooke Parker, Cassandra Plageman, Haley Schrock, Aspen Searle, Marisa Shook, Alex Sorgi and Kiley Sosby.
To qualify for NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete recognition, a student-athlete must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale during the previous academic year.
The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across seven membership divisions. NCAA Division I, with 1,240 honorees, had the most student-athletes with a 3.5 GPA or higher, while 1,124 in Division III earned recognition, followed by 963 Division II student-athletes. High School weighted and High School unweighted posted 618 and 512 honorees apiece. NAIA amassed 384 recipients and Junior College totaled 311.

The Falcons wrap up the fall portion of the schedule on Saturday (Oct. 8), hosting Tiffin University in a doubleheader at Meserve Field. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m., and admission is free.
