Official Release
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Madeline Garda, a senior libero on the Bowling Green State University volleyball team, was named the MAC East Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday (Oct. 17) evening. Garda has earned the honor four times already this season.
The senior picked up the honor last week, as well, and it's now the second time this season that she's earned the honor in consecutive weeks, as she was named the MAC East Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 12 and Sept. 19.
The native of West Chester, Ohio continues to lead the country in digs per set (6.64) and total digs (485), and was a huge part of the Falcons' wins on the road this past weekend at Eastern Michigan (Oct. 14) and Central Michigan (Oct. 15). Garda posted 41 digs on the weekend, and increased her nation-leading average by averaging 6.83 digs per set across the weekend.
In Friday's win at Eastern Michigan, she notched 23 digs (7.67 digs/set), and also registered seven aces, which ranks second in school history, and was the most aces in a match for a BGSU Falcon since 1988. The next day, in another 3-0 win at Central Michigan, Garda recorded 18 digs (6.00 digs/set).
Garda has had quite the season, as she broke the school record for digs in a single match with a 40-dig effort on Sept. 10 versus Drake. She's also been named the tournament MVP at both the BGSU Invitational (Sept. 2-3) and UIC Invitational (Sept. 11-12).
