MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team earned a 3-0 victory over Central Michigan University on Saturday (Oct. 15) evening in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. The Falcons won the match by a score of 25-14; 25-20; 25-18. Bowling Green has now won five-straight matches.
Bowling Green did not lose a set across the weekend, as the Orange and Brown swept Eastern Michigan on the road last night. BGSU's three most recent victories have all come via the sweep. Bowling Green is now 15-6 on the season, and 5-3 in Mid-American Conference play.
"We are all very happy to earn two important wins on the road," said head coach Danijela Tomic. "We reached another milestone we set for ourselves, and we did it tonight with very good offensive execution. Our freshman setter Isabelle Marciniak ran a good offense, and the hitters made smart shots most of the time.
"Our serve and serve receive game wasn't up to our standard, but our scrappy defense made up for that. We are looking forward to getting back in the gym next week to continue to improve and grow as a team."
As a team, the Falcons hit an impressive .343 (44-9-102), and held CMU to a .144 hitting percentage. Jelena Sunjic had a team-high 13 kills, and had seven digs. Isabel Kovacic followed with 11 kills and hit .476 (11-1-21).
Nicole Slimko had a solid match, as well, as she racked up eight kills and hit .389 (8-1-18). Alyssa Maloney hit .278 (7-2-18), while Madeline Brandewie had four kills, zero errors, and hit .571 (4-0-7).
Madeline Garda continues to lead the county in digs per set (6.64) and total digs (485), and finished the match with 18 digs. Kallie Seimet added to the defensive effort with nine digs. Isabelle Marciniak registered 35 assists, and nearly recorded her first-career double-double, as she also had nine digs.
The Falcons are now 10-1 in matches away from the Stroh Center, and 4-1 on the road in conference play. Bowling Green finished off a four-match road swing this evening with a 4-0 record, having lost just two sets.
The Orange and Brown will return to the Stroh Center on Oct. 21 with a 5 p.m. match versus Ball State University. The Falcons will then stage a Battle of I-75 showdown the following evening (Oct. 22) with the University of Toledo. The match against Toledo is slated for a 5 p.m. start, as well.
