The league award is the second of the day for Souahy. On Monday morning, he was one of 13 players across the country named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week.
Souahy, a native of Saint Etienne au Mont, France (Saint Joseph), helped the Falcons at both ends of the pitch last week, as BGSU went 2-0-0. Souahy scored both goals in the Falcons' come-from-behind 2-1 win at Northern Kentucky on Tuesday evening (Oct. 4). After the Norse took a one-goal lead in the first half, the BG center-back scored the tying goal with 30 minutes to go in the second half, then headed home the winning goal with just 3:07 remaining. The two-goal match was the first of Souahy's collegiate career.
Then, on Friday night (Oct. 7), Souahy and the BGSU defense held No. 22 West Virginia scoreless as the Falcons picked up a road win over a nationally-ranked team to begin MAC play. The Falcons won the conference opener for the first time since the 2011 season, and BG's win over the Mountaineers is the Falcons' first victory over a top-25 team since that 2011 campaign. BG has won each of the last three meetings with WVU.
Souahy, in his second season with the Falcons, played every second of every match in 2015, and has played all but 31 seconds this fall. He has five points this season and nine in his BG career, and has helped the Falcons post six shutouts in 12 matches this season to date.
The Falcons are 8-3-1 overall and 1-0-0 in MAC play, heading into a home match vs. Western Michigan on Saturday night (Oct. 15). Kickoff for that contest is set for 7:00 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium, and admission is free.
