Yates Named Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for Football

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green State University Head Football Coach named Billy Yates as Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for Football today. Yates, who comes to BGSU after serving as the Assistant Strength Coach at Texas Tech during the last three seasons.
"Billy is a great addition to our football program and Bowling Green State University," Jinks said. "He brings a strong pedigree of experience to our football players and will push them to be better both on and off the field. We are thrilled that Billy is a BGSU Falcon!"
After a playing career at Texas A&M, Yates enjoyed an eight-year career in the National Football League. During his eight seasons, Yates played for three different franchises including a five-year stint with the New England Patriots where he helped them to a Super Bowl win in Super Bowl XXXIX. He spent his final two seasons with the Cleveland Browns before retiring in 2010. Yates made 14 starts and played in 41 total games during his eight seasons in the league.
"My family and I are so excited to be here," Yates began. "It's a great opportunity for us to grow in such a rich community. I'm very appreciative of Coach Jinks and the athletics department for allowing me to be a part of it. I love the culture here."
After retiring from the NFL, Yates began his career as a strength and conditioning coach at Texas A&M. After one season with the Aggies, Yates spent three seasons in Lubbock. He and his wife, Tamika, have a son, William.
