Falcon Basketball Players in the Pros
Bowling Green, Ohio – With over 75 former members of the Bowling Green State University men's basketball program having either played or coached in the professional ranks, a total of seven former Falcons are currently playing professional basketball, while one former Falcon student-athlete is an assistant coach in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Highlighted by Richaun Holmes – who was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round of the 2015 NBA Draft – former Falcons are also represented in a number of professional leagues across Europe.
Below are updates on each of the seven Falcons still playing professionally and former Falcon Jay Larranaga who is on the sidelines as an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics.
Richaun Holmes
Philadelphia 76ers (No. 37 pick overall in 2015 NBA Draft / Summer League)
Played at BGSU: 2012-15
On June 25, 2015, Richaun Holmes became the first Falcon to be selected in the NBA Draft since Antonio Daniels in 1997 when he was picked 37th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers. Holmes made an immediate impact for the 76ers at the 2015 Utah Jazz Summer League in early July where in three games he averaged 9.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game in 16.7 minutes per contest. The former Falcon shot 80 percent from the free throw line and 42.3 percent from the field overall at the Utah Summer League. He was scheduled to play for the 76ers at the Las Vegas Summer League before fracturing his right elbow on a block attempt in his final game at the Utah Jazz Summer League. Holmes is expected to return to 100 percent in time to attend the 76ers' Training Camp in September.
A'uston Calhoun
SAM Basket Massagno (Switzerland) / Angers BC 49 (France)

Since 2013-14, A'uston Calhoun has played overseas in the professional ranks and has most recently signed to play with the Angers BC 49 team in France on June 26, 2015. Last season in 2014-15, Calhoun suited up for the SAM Basket Massagno team in Switzerland in which he led the team in scoring and ranked fifth overall in the LNA with 18.8 points per game. He was second on the team in rebounding at 7.5 boards per contest. The former Falcon shot 49.2 percent overall from the field and 82.4 percent from the free throw line in 17 games on the season. He scored a season-high 26 points in a loss to Boncourt on Jan. 31, 2015 and poured in 25 points in a win over Monthey on Dec. 7, 2014 and in a win versus Monthey again on Jan. 25, 2015.
Jordon Crawford
Mapfree Life (Cyprus)
Played at BGSU: 2009-13
Jordon Crawford had a strong season for the Mapfree Life (Cyprus) team in the North League in Europe this past season. He averaged 26.8 points, 6.3 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game and led his team to become the North League Champions where he was named the North League Playoffs Most Valuable Player. The former Falcon was named to the All-Star Team in Cyprus and went on to start the All-Star Game. With his 26.8 points per game, Crawford led the league in scoring and won the Scoring Title.
Nate Miller
Ironi Nahariya (Israel)
Played at BGSU: 2006-09
In his second season with the Ironi Nahariya of the Israel Winner League, Nate Miller played in 11 games in 2014-15. Averaging 31.9 minutes per contest, the former Falcon averaged 12.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.1 steals per game. Miller shot 43.5 percent from the field overall, 30.8 percent from long range and 61 percent from the free throw line on the season. He posted a season-high 17 points and 15 rebounds in an 87-83 loss to Ironi Nes-Ziona.
Jon Reimold
Amicale Steinsel (Luxembourg)
Played at BGSU: 2002-05
Since being drafted by the Dakota Wizards of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) in 2005, Reimold has played professionally in the International Basketball League (IBL) in the USA, as well as in Argentina, Germany and Luxembourg. In 2014-15, Reimold helped lead the Amicale Steinsel to a first-place regular season finish with 24-4 overall record in the Luxembourg Total League. However, Amicale suffered a 2-1 series loss in the Luxembourg Championship Series to T71. In 18 games, the former Falcon averaged 16.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game. He shot 49.6 percent from the field overall, 36.5 percent from behind the three-point line and 71.9 perfect from the charity stripe. He scored a season-high 37 points in a 74-67 win over Contern on Oct. 18, 2014. Reimold also poured in 24 points in a 68-65 win over T71 on Oct. 12, 2014.
Martin Samarco
Ramat Hasharon (Israel)
Played at BGSU: 2005-07
Playing for the Ramat Hasharon team in the Israel National League last season, Martin Samarco was third on the team in both scoring at 16.1 points and in rebounding at 6.7 boards per contest in 2014-15. The former Falcon, who played in 16 games on the season, also averaged 2.8 assists per game. He shot 48.3 percent from the field overall, 35.8 percent from behind the three-point arc and an even 80 percent from the free throw line. He scored a season-high 29 points in a 97-91 win over Elitzur Ashkelon on April 20, 2015 and in a Ramat Hasharon victory over Hapoel Kazrin on April 7, 2015.
Scott Thomas
Limburg United (Belgium)
Played at BGSU: 2008-12
Scott Thomas returned to the court in 2014-15 with the Limburg United in the Scooore League in Belgium. Limburg United went 12-8 overall in the Scooore League Stage One Standings and finished 16-14 overall in the Scooore League State Two Standings for the year. Thomas, who played in all 32 games for his Limburg United team, averaged 13.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He shot 48.1 percent from the field overall, 33.7 percent from behind the three-point line and 77.1 percent from the free throw line on the season. Thomas poured in a season-high 26 points versus his old Antwerp team in a 107-103 overtime thriller on Feb. 27, 2015. Thomas also scored 25 points in a 102-88 victory over Brussels on Nov. 28, 2014, 21 points in a 90-82 win over Kangoeroes on Oct. 18, 2014 and 20 points in the 85-67 win versus Mons-Hainaut on Oct. 3, 2014. He also posted a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds in a 84-80 overtime win versus Leuven Nov. 7, 2014.
Jay Larranaga
Boston Celtics (Assistant Coach)
Played at BGSU: 1993-97
Jay Larranaga enters his fourth season as an assistant coach with the Boston Celtics in 2015-16 having been on staff since 2012 under former head coach Doc Rivers and current head coach Brad Stephens. In 2014-15, the Boston Celtics, who were supposed to be in full on rebuilding mode, went 40-42 overall and earned the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. The Celtics were matched up with the No. 2 Cleveland Cavaliers, who swept Boston 4-0 in the first round series. Most recently, the former Falcon served as the head coach for the Boston Celtics Summer League Team at the Utah Jazz Summer League in July 2015. Larranaga has also served as an assistant for the Ukraine National Team under former NBA coach Mike Fratello since 2012.
