BGSU's pre-Mid-American Conference schedule includes four regular-season games at the Stroh Center, including a visit from NCAA Tournament participant South Dakota State. The slate also features several trips to exotic locales over the holidays, as well as a pair of road games against American Athletic and Atlantic Coast Conference foes.
The December portion of the schedule features four consecutive games against teams that participated in national postseason tournaments a year ago.
"We are excited about this season's non-conference schedule," said Roos, who enters her fourth season as head coach of the Falcons. "This schedule will challenge us in many ways, and will be great preparation for our always-difficult MAC schedule.
"We play a number of teams that we faced last season, but we also play several opponents for the first time ever. And, each of our last five non-league opponents won at least 16 games, meaning that we will need to be playing well to have a chance to build momentum going into the MAC portion of the schedule."
Each of the Falcons' first three games gives BG an opportunity to complete a sweep of a home-and-home series that began last season. The Orange and Brown will open the schedule with a weekend series vs. Illinois State (Nov. 13) and Bradley (Nov. 15) at the Stroh. The Falcons downed both the Redbirds and the Braves on the road last December.
BG takes to the road for the first time the next weekend, heading to Cincinnati to face the Bearcats on Saturday, Nov. 21. The Falcons picked up a 10-point win over UC at the Stroh last season.
Then, BG ends November with a trip to Wilmington, N.C., for the UNCW Hampton Inn Thanksgiving Classic. The Falcons will open against Davidson, Coach Roos' alma mater, on Nov. 27, before meeting Jacksonville University one day later.
BGSU opens the month of December with a midweek contest vs. Evansville at the Stroh. The Aces will come to Northwest Ohio on Wednesday, Dec. 2, beginning a stretch of three games in seven days for the Falcons.
BG makes a short trip East to meet Cleveland State the following Saturday (Dec. 5), then heads to Charlottesville, Va., for a matchup with Virginia on Tuesday, Dec. 8. Both the Vikings and Cavaliers advanced to the WNIT last season, with CSU winning 19 games and UVa 17.
After a break for exams, the Falcons will face South Dakota State at the Stroh on Monday, Dec. 21. The Jackrabbits went 24-9 last season, winning at least 20 games for the ninth time in the last 11 years, and SDSU advanced to the NCAA Championships.
The Falcons, who have won at least 20 games 11 times in the last 12 seasons, close the non-league slate with a trip to San Antonio, Texas, for the UTSA Holiday Classic on Dec. 28-29. BG will meet Texas Southern on day one and the host school on the second day. Texas Southern won 19 games last year, and the Lady Tigers participated in the WNIT, while the UTSA Roadrunners posted 16 wins a season ago.
"We will be challenged throughout the entire non-league schedule, but this schedule also gives us opportunities to achieve success and get better as we prepare for the always-difficult MAC schedule in January," said Roos. "We have a lot of work to do between now and November, but we also can't wait for the season to arrive."
Falcon fans will get their first chance to see BG in action on Nov. 7, as the Brown and Orange will host Ashland in an exhibition. The Eagles won 25 games and advanced to the 'Sweet Sixteen' of the NCAA Championships in Division II. Ashland is coached by Robyn Fralick, a graduate of Davidson, where Roos was an assistant coach for eight years before coming to BG in 2001. Fralick's freshman season at DC was the final year for Roos as an assistant coach there, before Roos moved to Northwest Ohio and joined the Falcon staff.
The 18-game MAC schedule, which runs from January through March, will be announced later this summer and will include nine home contests. Ticket information for the 2015-16 season will be available soon through the BGSU Athletics Ticket Office.
