Brooke Pleger Named Nominee For NCAA Woman Of The Year

Indianapolis, Ind. - Brooke Pleger, a three-time All-American who finished third at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in the hammer throw, has been named a nominee for the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year award.
Pleger graduated in May with a 3.624 grade point average in nursing. She finished the year by placing third at the national championships in the hammer throw and led the country in the event for much of the year. She also ranked among the top 20 in the country in the weight throw during the indoor season, finishing at No. 17. She won her third consecutive Mid-American Conference Championship in the hammer throw in the spring, breaking MAC Championship and overall MAC records in the process. She then placed first at the NCAA East Region preliminary round, again setting meet and facility records. She is the school record holder in both the hammer throw and the weight throw.
Pleger is one of 207 NCAA Division I nominees and one of 480 across all three divisions of the organization. Each member school is encouraged to honor its top graduating female student-athlete by submitting their names for consideration for the Woman of the Year award. Each conference assesses the nominee's eligibility and will select up to two conference nominees. The Woman of the Year selection committee with then choose the top 30 honorees -- 10 from each division.
From the top 30, the selection committee determines the top three nominees from each division and announces the top nine finalists in September. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics then chooses from among those nine to determine the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year. All of the top 30 honorees will be celebrated at the annual award ceremony Oct. 18 in Indianapolis.
