Alex Hangs with the BGSU Men's Basketball Team
Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team along with Team IMPACT is excited to announce the newest Falcon to join the men's hoops program in Alex Schenk, who signed with head coach Chris Jans and BGSU on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 21.
"We are thrilled to have Alex join the Falcon Family to be a part of the Men's Basketball program here at BGSU. By working with Team IMPACT, we have got to know Alex and see that he is an incredibly strong young man and will be a great addition to the current group of guys we have representing BG," commented Coach Jans.
Alex is a 13-year-old from Perrysburg, Ohio and is thrilled to be the newest Falcon to join the roster. When Alex was born he was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot - a defect that involves anatomical abnormalities of the heart. Alex's right ventricle and pulmonary artery had no connection between them. Doctors were able to put in an artificial tube to connect them but he needs it replaced as he grows. He has had four open heart surgeries, 15 heart caths, one surgery on his lungs, and had a stroke in 2009 leaving his left side weaker. Additionally, Alex had spinal surgery last month and is currently recovering. With all Alex continues to battle through, he truly epitomizes what it means to be a fighter and is an inspiration to all his new coaches and teammates.
According to Alex, his favorite numbers are 32 and 7, his favorite color is green, and he has a dog named Molly. Alex loves sports and his favorite athletes are Tom Brady, JT Barrett, and Pavel Datsyuk. He's also a big fan of SportsCenter and College Game Day. While he doesn't have a favorite singer or band, he likes Christian rock music. When not in school, Alex enjoys basketball, hockey, Perrysburg football, playing video games, cooking, and serving God's people. Alex, his parents, and brother Noah are all really excited to be part of the team and to continue this experience.
