Falcon Student-Athletes Among The Top 25 Nationally For Community Service
October 13, 2015 | General
Bowling Green, Ohio – While Bowling Green's athletic programs continue to succeed competitively (both men's soccer and hockey have earned national top 25 rankings so far this year), the 425 student-athletes in the department continue to give back to the community at an astounding rate. The NCAA's Team Works competition has the Falcons at No. 22 in the nation in terms of community service hours this year.
"One of our top priorities is giving back to the BG community that supports us day-in and day-out," Chet Hesson, Assistant Athletics Director for Academics and Student Services, said. "Our involvement in events such as STEM in the Park – a free community event created to get people of all ages excited about science, technology, engineering and mathematics – where we showcase how sport is related to STEM is very important to our culture and commitment to servant leadership."
NCAA Team Works uses the Helper Helper app to track community service hours for all athletic departments in the country. Each week a top 25 list is determined. BGSU comes in at No. 22 this week, second among all Mid-American Conference schools and first among Western Collegiate Hockey Association athletic departments. The top 25 includes schools at all levels of the NCAA (Division I, II and III).
