2014-15 Ice Hockey Schedule
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team finalized its 2014-15 schedule Wednesday afternoon, showcasing a number of exciting matchups throughout a 36-game slate. The Falcons, who will be entering the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for the second year, will begin their season at the start of October and will run through mid-March. The Orange and Brown are scheduled to play 28 WCHA games and eight non-conference tilts before the WCHA opening playoff round begins on March 14.
The Falcons will open its 2014-15 campaign with an exhibition affair against Simon Fraser on Oct. 4 at the BGSU Ice Arena, with a time still to be determined. Bowling Green will then kick off its regular season with a home-and-home series against in-state rival Miami University in a non-conference battle, holding their home opener on Oct. 10 at the BGSU Ice Arena before taking on the Redhawks on Oct. 12 at the Goggin Ice Center at 7:35 p.m.
"We are excited about our 2014-15 schedule," Falcons head coach Chris Bergeron said.
Bowling Green will then take part of a four-game road trip. The Falcons will travel down to Huntsville, Alabama on Oct. 17-18 to take on Alabama-Huntsville, with both games slated to start at 7:07 p.m. The Orange and Brown will continue its time away from the BGSU Ice Arena by traveling to Potsdam, New York to take on Clarkson University on Oct. 24-25 in non-conference action, marking the first time the two teams will play each other since Oct. 16, 2010.
Returning home, the Falcons will play host to Minnesota State on Oct. 31 – Nov. 1 in league play, marking the first time the two teams will play since the Mavericks defeated the Falcons in the 2014 WCHA Final Five on March 21, 2014. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7:07 p.m. at the BGSU Ice Arena.
BGSU will continue its WCHA play the following week, traveling north to Fairbanks, Alaska on Nov. 7-8 to take on Alaska in the first of two trips to the state known as the Last Frontier. The Falcons went 1-0-1 against the Nanooks in 2013-14, outscoring them 4-1 in the only weekend series matchup at the BGSU Ice Arena.
The Falcons will continue its campaign with a home-and-home series against Ohio State in non-conference action. The Orange and Brown will host the Buckeyes on Nov. 14 with a 7:07 p.m. start time before traveling to Columbus, Ohio on Nov. 15 to finish the two-game non-conference weekend showdown. The two teams split a pair of games last season, as the Buckeyes outscored the Falcons 8-7 in two games.
"The schedule includes two in-state rivals with Miami and Ohio State in non-conference games and we couldn't be more excited," Bergeron said.
The Falcons will play four WCHA games to warp-up the first half of the schedule, taking on Bemidji State on Nov. 21-22 at the BGSU Ice Arena before traveling to Marquette, Michigan on Dec. 5-6 to take on Northern Michigan.
Bowling Green will open in the second half with its third and final home-and-home series of the 2014-15 season. The Falcons will host Robert Morris on Jan. 3, 2015 at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, Ohio in an outdoor game.
"We are very excited to be a part of Winterfest. We have not had a chance to participate in an outdoor event so for us to be able to be a part of this, and to remain close to home by playing in Toledo, is a great opportunity. We have worked with the Toledo Walleye staff in the past and we know this will be a first-rate event," Bergeron Said.
Bowling Green and Robert Morris, in conjunction with the Toledo Walleye, announced the two programs will play an outdoor game on Jan. 3, 2015 last February as part of the Walleye's Winterfest at Fifth Third Field in Toledo. Puck drop is scheduled to begin at Noon.
The Falcons, who defeated Robert Morris in the Three Rivers Classic consolation game in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Dec. 28, 2013, will then travel to the Charles L. Sewall Center to take on the Colonials on Jan. 4 with a 7:07 p.m. start time in the second game of the two-game set.
The home-and-home series against RMU will mark the final non-conference games for the Falcons. BGSU will finish the final two months of its regular season with 18-straight WCHA games before the WCHA Playoffs begin.
During the WCHA 18-game stretch to end the season, the Orang and Brown will make road trips to Michigan Tech (Jan. 16-17), Bemidji State (Jan. 30-31), Ferris State (Feb. 13-14), and will travel to Anchorage, Alaska to take on the Seawolves on Feb. 27-28.
