BGSU Men’s Basketball Signs David Joseph
April 25, 2014 | Men's Basketball

"I am pleased to publicize that David "Pepe" Joseph has signed a letter of intent with Bowling Green State University. Pepe will influence winning in a number of different ways. He is a point guard capable of running a team, distributing the basketball, and is a shot maker," stated Coach Jans. "I love that he has played for a coach in Scott Raines who demands discipline and is a great teacher of the game. I couldn't be more excited to have Pepe as our first signee at BGSU!"
Joseph, a 6-1 and 185 pound point guard, comes to BGSU from Howard College in Big Spring, Texas where he suited up for the Hawks for two seasons. The junior college transfer will have two years of eligibility at Bowling Green.
This past season, Joseph was named to the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) All-Conference Team and the Region V All-Region Team as he averaged 13.0 points, 6.3 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game as a sophomore, all while leading his team to a 24-8 overall record. The point guard shot 48.5 percent overall from the floor on the season, 45.9 percent from behind the three point and 79.5 percent from the free throw line.
In conference play, Joseph increased his scoring average to 15.8 points per game to lead the Hawks to 11 conference wins on the season.
Among all National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I members in 2013-14, Joseph ranked ninth overall nationally with 208 total assists, 11th in minutes played with 987 and 25th in games started with 32 starts.
Originally from Queens, New York, Joseph finished his high school basketball career at Westlake Prep in Davie, Florida before moving on to play one season at Nia Prep in Newark, New Jersey after graduation.
At Nia Prep in 2010-11, Joseph averaged 13.3 points, 5.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game, as his team went 26-8 overall on the year and made an appearance at the National Prep Championship in Connecticut. For his strong season, Joseph represented the New Jersey Boys Team in the 2011 JCCS Schoolboy/Schoolgirl Classic that season.
Joseph signed with Utah State University-College of Eastern Utah out of Nia Prep where he redshirted his freshman year in 2011-12 before transferring to Howard College.
Joseph is Coach Jans' first signee as the head coach of Bowling Green State University.
