Bowling Green, Ohio – The 2014-15 Bowling Green State University men's basketball team and first year head coach Chris Jans will tip-off the 2014-15 season with an exhibition contest versus the Falcons of Notre Dame College on Friday, Nov. 7, at 4:30 p.m. in the Stroh Center.
The men's basketball game is the first part of an exhibition doubleheader, as the women's team is scheduled to host Davis & Elkins College at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets to the exhibition game are just $5, and one ticket is good for both games.
The Falcons return nine letterwinners from last season, highlighted by four starters in Richaun Holmes, Jehvon Clarke, Anthony Henderson and Spencer Parker, while redshirt-junior Chauncey Orr and redshirt-freshman Garrett Mayleben return after redshirting last season.
BGSU also bolsters five newcomers on the roster this season in junior college transfers Delvin Dickerson, David Joseph and Jovan Austin, as well as two freshmen in Matt Fox and Rasheed Worrell.
Last season, the Falcons went 12-20 overall and 6-12 in conference play. Seven of the 12 overall wins came at home in the Stroh Center, while eight of their 20 losses came by five points or less.
Bowling Green has four players returning that played in all 32 games last season in Holmes, Parker, Clarke and JD Tisdale, while Henderson returns for his redshirt-senior season after suiting up for the Falcons in 31 games last year.
Holmes, who was named to the Preseason All-MAC Second Team, is the top returning scorer for BGSU after averaging 13.3 points per game a year ago, while Parker and Clarke each averaged 12.5 points apiece last season.
Like Holmes, Parker and Clarke, Henderson averaged double digit points last year at 10.4 points per game, while returners Tisdale, Zack Denny, Damarkeo Lyshe, Josh Gomez and Brandon Busuttil round out the returning core for Coach Jans and his staff.
The Notre Dame Falcons, who were picked to finish seventh in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) preseason coaches' poll, return the top-two scorers not only on the team but in the MEC in Lawrence DeArmond and Tyree Gaiter, who both averaged over 20 points per game in 2013-14.
Last year, Notre Dame went 11-19 overall and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Mountain East Conference Tournament. The season was highlighted by an upset win over then No. 1 West Liberty.
The Falcons 2014-15 regular season slate will tip-off on the road Saturday, Nov. 15, at Drake in Des Moines, Iowa. Game time is slated for a 3:05 p.m. ET start.
BGSU's 2014-15 regular season home opener will be Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 19, versus in-state rival Wright State at 4 p.m. at the Stroh Center.
