Falcons Picked to Finish Second in East Division

Clawson, Flewellyn and Martin represent BGSU at MAC Media Day
The Mid-American Conference media members have had their say, and the Bowling Green State University football Falcons have been picked to finish second in the MAC's East Division in 2013. The preseason poll was unveiled Tuesday morning (July 23) at the MAC's annual Football Media Day in Detroit, Mich.
Head coach Dave Clawson, senior offensive lineman Dominic Flewellyn and redshirt junior linebacker Gabe Martin represented the Falcons at the media day festivities at Ford Field.

MAC Media Day events are being streamed on ESPN3.com, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday. Bowling Green is scheduled to appear at 10:10 a.m.
"Regardless of the polls, we have high expectations for our team and our program," Clawson said at Media Day. "We embrace those expectations and we look forward to playing it out on the field."
The Falcons received eight first-place votes and 154 total points in the poll. Ohio was picked to win the East Division, garnering 164 points and 15 first-place votes. Kent State (119 points, 1 first-place vote), Buffalo (101, 1), Miami (78), Akron (53) and Massachusetts (29) rounded out the East Division list.
In the West, Northern Illinois was picked to finish first, as the Huskies received 16 first-place votes and 138 total points. Toledo was tabbed for second, followed by Ball State, Central Michigan, Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan.
NIU received 14 votes to win the 2013 Marathon MAC Championship Game, while Toledo and Ohio earned three votes each. BGSU and Ball State each garnered two votes and Central Michigan one.
For the Falcons, the regular season begins with a home game vs. Tulsa on Thursday, Aug. 29. BGSU also hosts Murray State (Sept. 21), Akron (Sept. 28), UMass (Oct. 5), Toledo (Oct. 26) and Ohio (Nov. 12), while the road schedule includes trips to Kent State (Sept. 7), Indiana (Sept. 14), Mississippi State (Oct. 12), Miami (Nov. 5), Eastern Michigan (Nov. 23) and Buffalo (Nov. 29).
