
Jones Selected in Sixth Round by Houston Texans

Chris Jones, a member of the Bowling Green State University football team, was selected by the Houston Texans in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL draft. Jones becomes the first Falcons to be drafted since Kory Lichtensteiger was selected in the fourth round by the Denver Broncos in 2007.
The Brownsburg, Ind., native registered 42 tackles, 19.0 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 2012, earning Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year honor. At one point, Jones recorded a sack in eight straight contests and was named MAC East Defensive Player of the Week on three different occasions during that span.
Jones, also known as the “Monster of the MAC” had several highlight performance last season, helping the Falcons' defense rank in the top-10 nationally in nearly every statistical category. The defensive tackle had two sacks versus arch-rival Toledo, five tackles, 2.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss versus Eastern Michigan and 2.5 sacks and a 23-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown in a 37-12 win over Miami.
Jones finished his career playing in 50 consecutive games (44 starts), while recording 157 tackles, 28.0 sacks (second-most in BGSU history), 46.0 tackles for loss, six forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. He was a three-time All-MAC performer, earning first-team honors in 2011 and 2012.
Other awards associated with Jones were team captain (2011 and 2012), first-team All-American by the Football Writers Association of American (FWAA) and third-team All-American by the Associated Press (AP).
