About Alabama Huntsville
The University of Alabama in Huntsville is currently the only NCAA Division I ice hockey program located in the Southern United States. The Chargers are located in Huntsville, Alab, and play their home games at Propst Arena at the Von Braun Center. UAH named Mike Corbett as the program's sixth head hockey coach as the team joined the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for the 2013-14 season.
All-Time Series
The weekend series between the Falcons and Chargers will mark the 11th and 12th time these two teams will play each other. Bowling Green holds a 7-2-1 all-time record against UAH. The Orange and Brown will enter this weekend unbeaten at home all-time against the Chargers, owning a 4-0-1 record at the BGSU Ice Arena. Â
Weekend Review (No. 16 Lake Superior State)
Game 1: SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team lost to 16th-ranked Lake Superior State University on Friday night (Nov. 29), by a score of 4-3, in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association showdown. Playing in front of 1,571 fans at the Taffy Abel Arena, the Falcons saw three different skaters score goals, while sophomore goaltender Tommy Burke turned away 20-of-24 shots.

Game 2: SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team lost to 16th-ranked Lake Superior State University on Saturday night (Nov.30), 4-3, in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association affair. Playing in front of 1,601 fans at the Taffy Abel Arena, the Falcons saw two different skaters score goals, while freshman goaltender Tomas Sholl (2-6-0) turned away 28-of-32 shots.

At the BGSU Ice Arena (5000) this weekend, Bowling Green (6-7-3, 4-5-1 WCHA, 9 points) will play host to Alabama Huntsville (0-14-0, 0-8-0 WCHA) in a pair of 7:07 pm ET league encounters. The Falcons, who are an impressive 5-1-1 overall on home ice so far, have lost three straight league games by a single goal. The Chargers, meanwhile, have suffered five one-goal setbacks to date and continue their quest for their first victory. The second two-game series between BGSU and UAH will occur on Jan. 3-4 in Huntsville.
WCHA In The Polls
After strong showings over the weekend, Ferris State and Lake Superior State remained in the top 15 after the latest United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) National Poll was released on Tuesday (Dec. 2). The Bulldogs, who are in first place in the conference with a 11-2-2 overall record and an unbeaten record of 8-0-2 in league games, stayed in the 6th position. Lake Superior State, who is 9-4-1 overall and 5-3 in the WCHA, jumped two spots in the poll to 14th position. Minnesota State, who was the preseason coaches' poll favorite, also received a vote (1) in the latest poll.
Falcons In Conference Play
This weekend's series marks Bowling Green's sixth straight against a WCHA opponent. In all, the Falcons will have 14 straight league games in a seven-week span before playing in the Three Rivers Classic Dec. 27-28 at the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh. The stretch is easily the Falcons longest of the year, and is currently 4-5-1 (9 points) during the conference stretch. Bowling Green will conclude their seven-week WCHA span with series' against UAH and Michigan Tech.
Rocky Road
Over the month of November, the Falcons played arguably their toughest stretch of the year. The Orange and Brown played in three road series, all coming against a ranked opponent during that time. Bowling Green took on then 16th-ranked Minnesota State (Nov. 8-9), 14th-ranked Ferris State (Nov. 15-16) and 16th-ranked Lake Superior State last week, coming away with only a 1-4-1 record. The Orange and Brown went 4-5-1 overall during the month.
Home Cookin'
Bowling Green will return to the BGSU Ice Arena this weekend to take on the University of Alabama in Huntsville. The Falcons have played on their home ice in only two weeks of out their last seven. The Orange and Brown will look to improve on their 5-1-1 start at the BGSU Ice Arena against UAH, where the Falcons hold a 4-0-1 all-time record when playing the Chargers.
 Second Period Success
40 percent of BGSU's goal scoring (19 of 48 goals) this season has come in the second period. The Falcons' have outscored their opponents 19-14 in the period, which marks their best goal differential (+4) against an opponent in a period this season. Overall, Bowling Green has outscored their opponent 48-43, a +5 goal differential on the year.
Willy Leading The Way
Senior Bryce Williamson (Seba Beach, Alberta) added to his season point total with an assist on Friday night (Nov.29). The right-hander had the primary helper on Brent Tate's goal in the second period. Williamson's point total now stands at 7-8=15, good for first on the team. His 15 points also ranks tied for fourth overall in the WCHA.
Mingo Scores Twice
Sophomore forward Dajon Mingo tallied two goals on Saturday night (Nov. 30), breaking a streak of 26-straight games dating back to last year without a goal. Mingo's two-goal output also gave him a new single game career-high and now has a total of 2-4=6 on the year.
Multi-Point Man
Dan DeSalvo, who was named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 5, recorded his third multiple-point game of the season with 1-1=2 in the Falcons' 4-3 loss to LSSU. It marked the first loss for Bowling Green on the season when DeSalvo records at least two points in a game. In all, the Falcons have seen 16 players tally at least two points in a game thus far.
This Weekend In Falcon History
The upcoming weekend series against UAH on Dec. 6-7 with resemble some special dates in Falcon history. Listed below are some historic dates related to Dec. 6-7.
Dec. 6, 1991: Dan Bylsma's short-handed goal, BG's only two-man-down marker in the history of the program, proves to be the game winner in a 5-4 win at Western Michigan.
Dec. 7, 1974: After topping BU one week earlier, the Falcons venture to East Lansing and defeat the No. 2 team in the nation, Michigan State, by a 7-4 margin. Byron Shutt scores a pair of goals for BG.
Dec. 7, 1990: BG receives a national ranking of eighth after securing its first ever sweep of a WCHA foe as the Falcons down North Dakota 7-5 in the first of a two-game series at the Ice Arena.
Dec 7, 1997: Freshman netminder Shawn Timm made 42 saves in a 1-0 Falcon victory at #1 Michigan State before a sellout crowd of 6,257 at Munn Arena. It would be one of only two losses at home for the CCHA champion Spartans. Freshman Dennis Williams scored the only goal of the game in the third period. The win snapped a nine-game winless streak for the Falcons, while the loss stopped an eight-game Spartan winning streak.
Month Of November
The hockey team ended the month of November with an overall record of 4-5-1, improving from a 1-5-1 mark a year ago. Overall, Bowling Green has doubled their overall point total after two months of play, with 14 this season compared to seven last year. Â

Alabama Huntsville Last Week: The University of Alabama in Huntsville lost a pair of non-conference games to #10 Notre Dame and Western Michigan in the Shillelagh Tournament this past weekend. The Shillelagh Tournament was hosted by Notre Dame which featured four total teams, including UAH, Northeasterm and Western Michigan.
The Chargers could not back Jeff Vanderlugt's two-goal performance on Friday night, dropping their opening game to 10th-ranked Notre Dame by a score of 5-2. UAH could not overcome a 3-0 deficit and dropped their 13th-straight defeat to begin the 2013-14 eason. Vanderlugt scored back-to-back goals, his second and third on the season, but the Fighting Irish added two more goals for their ninth victory of the season.
The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team dropped their fifth one-goal game of the season on Saturday, falling 1-0 to Western Michigan. UAH was shutout for the sixth time this season, as the Chargers were outshot 29-24 in the contest. UAH went 0-for-5 on the power play.
Alabama Huntsville's record dropped to 0-14-0 on the season, and 0-6-0 in non-confernce games this season.

Bergeron And The Media
Head coach Chris Bergeron took some time on Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 3) to meet with the media. His team is currently 6-7-3 overall and 4-5-1 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). The Falcons will return home to take on the University of Alabama in Huntsville at the BGSU Ice Arena in Bowling Green, Ohio.
