Falcons Sign Eleven During Early Signing Period

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—The Bowling Green State University baseball program has announced the commitment of 11 student-athletes to become Falcons next year. One of the largest early-signing classes in program history, these 11 student-athletes will fill the void left by this year's 12 seniors.
"The class of 2014-15 is a very important class for our program," head coach Danny Schmitz said. "With us losing 12 seniors after this season, we will have a lot of holes to fill. We were able to sign kids to fill in and replace positions of need."
Jevon Boyd | 6-3 | 225 | RHP | Edwardsville, Ill. | Edwardsville High School (Kaskaskia College)
Jevon Boyd will come to Bowling Green next season after two years at Kaskaskia College. A right-handed pitcher standing at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, Boyd will be an integral part of the pitching rotation in 2014. Last year, as a freshman, Boyd and Kaskaskia advanced to the NJCAA College World Series. He had a 3.55 ERA as a relief pitcher a season ago. This season, he is expected to start for KC. At Edwardsville High School, Boyd compiled an 11-1 record in two seasons on the varsity team, earning first team all-area. Boyd's uncle, Jason Boyd, enjoyed a successful MLB career playing for five different franchises. Boyd plans to major in physical education.
Coaches' comments: Jevon is a guy with experience that we see fitting into our weekend rotation right away. He had success at the World Series last season. With great mound presence as a power pitcher, we are excited for Jevon to join the Falcons next year.
Dakoda Brown | 6-1 | 175 | LHP | Perrysburg, Ohio | Toledo Christian High School
Kody Brown, a left-handed pitcher from Perrysburg, Ohio, will join the Falc
ons next season.
Coaches' comments: The thing we like most about Kody Brown is that he is a competitor. He has a very live arm from the left side and throws strikes. He has great upside, and we are excited to land him as a local product.
Axel Bueter | 6-1 | 170 | LHP | Wauseon, Ohio | Wauseon High School
Axel Bueter, currently a senior at Wauseon High School, will come to Bowling Green next fall as a freshman. Bueter, a left-handed pitcher, currently plays for coach Trent Thomas. A three-year letterwinner, Bueter earned all-league and all-district honors last season. Bueter is also a running back for the Indians, as he broke the school-record with 335 yards in a single game. Last season, he had a 3.71 ERA for the NWOAL champions. The son of Eric and Scottye Bueter, Axel plans to major in business.
Coaches' comments: Once again we are excited to sign a local product. Axel is a competitor with tremendous mound presence. He is also a great athlete who comes from a winning program. Axel has learned how to win and we are excited for him to become a Falcon next year.
Zac Carey | 6-1 | 165 | RHP | London, Ohio | London High School
Zac Carey, a right-handed pitcher from London, Ohio, has committed to continue his career
as a student-athlete at Bowling Green next fall. A 6-foot-1, 165 pound right-handed pitcher, Carey enters his fourth season of varsity baseball in 2014. He also plays basketball for the Red Raiders. Last year Carey was 7-2 with a 0.56 ERA. He threw nine complete games on the season, striking out 95 batters in just 63 innings. He also batted .415 for head coach Jim Wolverton.
Coaches' comments: Zac is the type of pitcher we look for in recruiting. He has great mound presence and can throw strikes with all of his pitches. He is a competitor on the mound and knows how to win. We are excited to welcome Zac to Bowling Green.
Hunter Clanin | 6-3 | 200 | C/OF | Columbus, Ohio | Bishop Ready High School
Hunter Clanin, the son of Sam and Angel Clanin, will come to Bowling Green next fall from Bishop Ready High School in Columbus, Ohio. A catcher and outfielder, Clanin has played four years of varsity baseball for the Silver Knights. He has also played football at BRHS. Last season, as a junior, Clanin batted .392 with 13 triples. He was named all-league and all-district. He has also been a senior during his junior and senior seasons. Clanin's father, Sam, played baseball at Columbus State. His grandfather, Mickey Pless, pitched for the Reds.
Coaches' comments: Hunter is a great athlete who we are excited to welcome to our Falcon family. He has a plus-arm from both behind the plate and from the outfield. He has good speed and is a versatile player. Hunter has tremendous upside and potential during his BGSU career.
Zachary Kendall | 6-1 | 150 | RHP | Troy, Ohio | Troy High School
Zachary Kendall, a senior at Troy High School, will join the baseball program next fall as a freshman. A 6-foot-1, right-
handed pitcher, Kendall will play his third season of varsity baseball in 2014. Last season, he was 6-4 with a 2.30 ERA. He struck out 69 batters. Kendall has also played golf throughout high school for the Trojans. The son of Matthew and Carrie Kendall, Zachary has one younger brother.
Coaches' comments: Zach is a kid that has a really good frame with a lot of upside. He is a good competitor with a really live arm. He is only going to get better as he gets bigger and stronger.
Justin Mott | 5-9 | 150 | C | Amherst, Ohio | Amherst Steele High School
Justin Mott, the son of Pat and Heather Mott, will come to Bowling Green as a freshman next year from Amherst Steele High School. A catcher, Mott batted .313 last season. In 2012, he batted .357 with 34 RBI. For the Comets, Mott also plays football. He has played three years of varsity baseball for head coach Matt Rositano. He will serve as a captain this season for baseball.
Coaches' comments: Justin Mott is a scrappy player. He is a blue-collar player and we like his work ethic on the field. He has a plus-arm from behind the dish, and is good defensively. He has a lot of confidence in himself, and we are excited for him to join the Falcons.
Chris Pluta | 6-3 | 190 | OF | Springboro, Ohio | Springboro High School
Coaches' comments: Chris is an athletic outfielder who we are excited to have at Bowling Green. He has a great frame, is good defensively, and plays hard. He is a solid lefty stick that will benefit our lineup with us losing 12 seniors after this season.
Wes Rickenberg | 6-3 | 170 | RHP | Napoleon, Ohio | Napoleon High School
Wes Rickenberg, a 6-foot-3, 170 pounder, comes to Bowling Green from Napoleon High School. A right-handed pitcher, Rickenberg has lettered three times for head coach Mark Stacey. Last season, Rickenberg struck out 41 batters in 35.2 innings pitched. A member of the National Honor Society at NHS, Rickenberg was also nominated for the Wendy's Heisman HS Athletic Scholarship. The son of Kevin and Theresa Rickenberg, Wes plans to major in middle childhood education at BGSU.
Coaches' comments: Wes Rickenberg is another local product in our 2014-15 signing class. He has a live arm, great frame, and tremendous upside. Wes knows what he wants to accomplish when he is on the mound, which we really like about him.
Randy Righter | 6-3 | 230 | 1B | Bloomfield Hills, Mich. | Brother Rice High School
Coaches' comments: Randy Righter is a big get for us, as he is one of the best pure bats in the 2014 class. He will be a key addition with the loss of both Jeremy Shay and T.J. Losby following the 2014 season. He will come in and make an immediate impact on the program. He is a middle of the order bat, and very solid defensively.
CJ Schildt | 6-2 | 180 | LHP | Hauppauge, N.Y. | Hauppauge High School (Kaskaskia College)
CJ Schildt, the son of Carl and Terrianne Schildt, comes to Bowling Green after playing one season at Kaskaskia College.
Coaches' comments: CJ Schildt is another kid that we are really excited about in next year's signing class. He comes from the same junior college as Jevon Boyd. It is exciting for us to get a pair of teammates who know each other well and will fit in here. CJ has experience, and we see him as a weekend rotation guy. He's a true pitcher who knows what he wants to do when he is on the mound.
"This signing class is the foundation of the program for the next four seasons," Schmitz continued. "Similar to this year's senior class, we will rely heavily on this class to continue the tradition of this program. We are excited to bring in two junior college pitchers to add immediate experience to our rotation. We are excited and looking forward to welcoming all 11 student-athletes to campus next fall."

A 6-foot-1, 175 pound frame, Brown is expected to graduate from Toledo Christian High School next May. While at TC, Brown has played varsity all four seasons, earning all-conference each of the last two seasons. As a junior, Brown struck out 51 batters in 38 innings. Brown is highly ranked by both Perfect Game and Prep Baseball Report. The son of James and Kelly Brown, Kody plans to major in education.

Randy Righter, standing at 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, will come to Bowling Green from Brother
Rice High School. A four-year varsity player for the Warriors, Righter also plays basketball. His Brother Rice teams have won two consecutive Catholic League crowns. As a sophomore, he batted .407, while improving to .420 last season. He was named all-state after last season. Righter was also a captain during his junior season, and has been elected one for his senior year. The son of Deric and Pam Righter, Randy plans to major in business.

He was named all-state, all-Long Island, and all-county throughout his career. He was also a two-time captain for the Eagles. Schildt will come to Bowling Green after playing his first season at KC this spring, and plans to major in sport management.
