Falcons Outclass Malone In 87-60 Exhibition Win

Bowling Green, Ohio – Five players scored in double-figures and another added nine points as the Bowling Green men's basketball team dominated Malone in an 87-60 exhibition victory Saturday afternoon at the Stroh Center.
Although Bowling Green does not return a player who averaged more than 7.5 points per game a year ago, the Falcons showed plenty of offensive firepower Saturday. Junior guard Anthony Henderson scored 17 points, while junior forwards Chauncey Orr and Richaun Holmes added 16 each. Senior center Cam Black showed a consistent offensive game and finished with 12 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore Spencer Parker came off the bench for 11 points and seven rebounds. Junior point guard Jehvon Clarke had nine points and dished out 10 assists to just one turnover.
The game was tied 9-9 early but the Falcons used a 17-1 run to pull away. Parker scored on back-to-back lay-ups and Clarke followed with a three-pointer to give Bowling Green a seven-point lead. Malone missed 10 consecutive shots as the Falcons continued to extend the lead on two more Parker baskets sandwiched around a Henderson lay-up.
Orr's lay-up with 4:47 to play in the first half pushed Bowling Green's lead to 20 and he added a three-pointer to make it 37-14. Black's jumper with 31 seconds left gave the Falcons a 47-23 halftime lead.
After committing just two first-half turnovers, Bowling Green played a sloppier second half as head coach Louis Orr substituted liberally and experimented with different combinations on the floor. The Falcons turned the ball over 12 times in the final 20 minutes and outscored Malone just 40-37 in the second half.
Bowling Green used both its size and quickness to its advantage, scoring 50 points in the paint, while also posting 22 fastbreak points. The Falcons exhibited some flair late with alley-oop dunks by Holmes and freshman JD Tisdale.
BGSU held a 49-29 rebounding advantage and had assists on 23 of its 34 buckets. The Falcons only attempted eight three-pointers but made four of those, including a pair from Henderson. Holmes, who set Bowling Green's single-season blocked shot record a year ago, had three rejections and the Falcons had seven as a team.
Malone did attempt 33 free-throws, making 24, while Bowling Green was just 15-of-24 from the stripe. The Pioneers were held to 28 percent shooting and just 4-of-28 three-point attempts.
Bowling Green will open the regular season Saturday when the Falcons host Earlham at 2 p.m.
