BGSU downs Dayton, 65-40 - recap, stats, interviews and more
College Sports Madness Players of the Week
Rogers, a native of West Chester, Ohio, had a double-double for the second-straight game, helping the Falcons to a monumental victory over a nationally-ranked opponent in the Falcons' lone game last week. She had game-high totals of 20 points, 10 rebounds and six steals as BGSU defeated #14/15 Dayton, 65-40, at the Stroh Center on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 30).
Rogers scored 16 of BG's 28 points in the first half, helping the Brown and Orange take a three-point lead at the intermission before BG pulled away in the second half.
Rogers impacted the game at both ends of the court, with five rebounds at both the offensive and defensive end as well as the six steals, which fell just one shy of her career high. She helped the BGSU defense hold Dayton to just four second-half field goals, as the Flyers went 4-of-25 (16.0%) in the final 20 minutes. The Flyers, who entered the game with a 12-0 record, were averaging 82.6 points per game, but Rogers & the Falcons held UD more than 42 points under that average. Rogers went 11-for-13 from the free-throw line in the win.
On the season, Rogers is averaging 11.3 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game. She leads the Falcons in rebounds and steals and is second in scoring. After averaging 5.9 points and 5.3 rebounds over her first seven games of the year, Rogers has averaged 20.8 points and 9.0 rebounds over the last four games, all wins. She has also averaged 4.0 steals per game in that time.
Rogers was named the MAC Player of the Week for the East Division. Niki DiGuilio of Central Michigan and Inma Zanoguera of Toledo shared this week's MAC P-O-W award for the West Division.
Rogers and the Falcons are 9-3 this season, and the BGSU has won six consecutive games. After going a perfect 6-0 in the month of December, the Falcons will begin the 2013 calendar year and close the non-conference schedule with a Friday (Jan. 4) game vs. UCF. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Stroh Center.
