BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University's head gymnastics coach Kerrie Beach has announced the signing of three gymnasts to National Letters of Intent. Lauren Feely, Simone Freidman and Rachel Reis will join the Falcons for the 2013-14 season.
"I am so pleased to welcome Rachel, Simone and Lauren to the Falcon family," Beach said. "All three of these gymnasts will bring talents in a variety of areas. While they all bring potential in the all-around, each athlete has definite strengths."
Feely, who hails from Gurnee, Ill., has a definite strength on vault, where she finished fourth at the 2012 Junior Olympic National Championships, along with a 25th-place all-around finish. On vault, she performs a full-twisting Yurchenko - a 10.0 start value vault in the NCAA. In January 2012, Feely scored a perfect ten on the vault in a high school meet. She currently attends Carmel Catholic High School and trains at Ultimate Gymnastics. She is the daughter of Liam and Jane Feely.
"Lauren is a powerful vaulter," Beach said. "That dynamic ability will shine on the competition floor."
Freidman, a native of Fairfax, Va., is a product of Capital Gymnastics - the same club that produced current Falcon Danielle Wishart. Recently, Freidman made the switch to Apollo Gymnastics, where she currently trains. A student at W.T. Woodson High School, Freidman placed fifth on floor exercise at the 2011 Junior Olympic National Invitational Tournament and has represented Team USA at the Maccabiah Games. She is the daughter of Howard and Robin Freidman.
"Simone is a great floor worker," Beach said. "The variety in her tumbling, paired with her charismatic dance, is a great addition."
Reis hails from Ponta Verdra, Fla. and is currently attending Nease High School. She trains at TNT Gymnastics and is the daughter of Don and Cindy Reis. Reis finished fourth on uneven bars at the Region 8 USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Championships in 2012 and is also the Senior B Uneven Bars Champion for the state of Florida.
"Rachel is outstanding on the uneven bars," Beach said. "Her lines are beautiful and she will really help us bring finesse to that lineup.
"The ability of all three of these athletes to compete consistently will really add to our lineups," she said. "These athletes are the total package and I can't wait for them to join us next fall."
