• BGSU is coming off a 24-3 win versus Eastern Michigan, their second straight game without allowing a touchdown.

• BGSU leads the all-time series with Ohio 36-25-2.
• Anthon Samuel ranks tied for 18th in school history with 1,569 career rushing yards.
• Chris Jones is second in BGSU history with 27.0 career sacks and currently is first in the nation with 11.5 sacks in 2012.
• Chris Jones (first-team), Alex Bayer (first-team), Dominic Flewellyn (second-team), Anthon Samuel (second-team), Dwayne Woods (third-team), Cameron Truss (third-team) and Ted Ouellet (third-team) were named to Phil Steele's mid-season All-MAC teams.
• The Falcons will have six captains in 2012: Dominic Flewellyn (OL), Ronnie Goble (DE), Chris Jones (DT), Matt Schilz (QB), Paul Swan (LB) and Bart Tanski (WR).
• According to philsteele.com the Falcons have the 10th youngest roster in the country with 66.7 percent of the roster underclassmen.
Scouting the Offense
Quarterback Matt Schilz will be making his 32nd start of his career this weekend versus Eastern Michigan. Schilz, a junior, threw for over 3,000 yards last season and 28 touchdowns, all career-bests, and has thrown for 6,999 yards and 45 touchdowns in his career. He leads an offense that ranks ninth in the MAC in scoring (23.0) and 10th in total offense (383.4).
It's hard to say who Schilz's top target is this year, but Shaun Joplin (31 rec., 478 yards), Chris Gallon (31 rec., 314 yards), Ryan Burbrink (30 rec., 253 yards) and Alex Bayer (27 rec., 331 yards) lead the way.
At running back the Falcons will depend on Anthon Samuel. Samuel, the reigning MAC Freshman of the Year, has already surpassed 1,500 yards in his career and has nine 100-yard games in his first 17 contests. On the year Samuel has 725 yards on the ground, while averaging 5.7 yards per carry and eight touchdowns.
Scouting the Defense
The Falcons return 10 starters from the 2011 team and are led by senior defensive tackle Chris Jones. Jones has 31 tackles, 16.0 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks on the year. Jones is currently first in the country in sacks and second in tackles for loss.
As a team, the Falcons rank eighth in the nation in total defense (290.0) and 11th in scoring (15.2), which are both first in the MAC. The Falcons also lead the conference in rush defense (104.2) and passing defense (185.8).
Scouting the Special Teams
Brian Schmiedebusch, a 2011 first-team all-conference punter a year ago, will once again handle all punting duties. The junior is averaging 41.8 yards per punt this season and has a 43.7 yard per punt career average.
Overall BGSU is just 5-of-11 on field goals and 24-of-26 on extra points, but Tyler Tate drilled a career-long 42 yard field goal versus UMass two weeks ago.
Eastern Michigan Recap
The Bowling Green State University football team put together another stellar defensive effort and cruised to bowl eligibility for the first time in three years with a 24-3 victory over Eastern Michigan.
The defense held Eastern Michigan to 178 total yards and 11 first downs, while never allowing the Eagles to enter the redzone. Chris Jones and Gabe Martin combined for five sacks, one which allowed Jones to score on a 23-yard fumble recovery, the first of his career.
Offensively the Falcons ran for 225 yards and one touchdown and dominated time of possession (34:50).
The Ohio Series
Wednesday's contest with Ohio will be the 64th meeting between the two schools from the Mid-American Conference. BGSU holds a 36-25-2 advantage over the Bobcats, but Ohio will enter this week's matchup with three straight wins, two of those wins coming down to essentially the final play.
In 2009 the Falcons dropped a touchdown with 1:15 remaining in the contest (trailed 44-37) and last season Ohio's Matt Weller drained a 23-yard field goal as time expired to help OU to the victory, 29-28.
In all, BGSU is 20-11-1 on the road in Athens and have won four of the last five meetings in Peden Stadium.
Just Win Baby
The Falcons have won five straight contests for the first time since 2004. That season the Falcons rattled off seven straight wins and advanced to the GMAC Bowl in Mobile, Ala.
Running For The Wins
Over the last five contests the Falcons have produced a dominant rushing attack. BGSU garnered at least 200 yards rushing in four of the five contests and have run the ball 205 times for 1,068 yards and seven touchdowns in that span, an average of 213.6 per game.

Stopping The Run For The Wins
In that same span the BGSU defense has completely shut down the rushing attacks for each of the last five opponents, holding the teams combined to 336 yards (67.2/game) on the ground on 131 carries (2.6/rush).

Three to Go
With three games remaining in the 2012 regular season the Falcons have everything to play for. At 4-1 in conference play BGSU controls its own destiny if it wants to reach the MAC Championship game in Detroit, Michigan. Wins over Ohio, Kent State and Buffalo would guarantee a MAC Championship appearance and give the team to win its first MAC Championship since 1992.
Under Center
Quarterback Matt Schilz will be making his 31st start of his career for the Orange and Brown. While still a junior, Schilz is nearing in on several BGSU school records.
• Is fourth is passing yards (6,999)
• Is fourth in passing attempts (1,076)
• Is third in passing completions (639)
• Is fifth in passing touchdowns (45)
Samuel.1000
Anthon Samuel, who has only played in 17 career games (missed three games in 2011 one in 2012 due to injury) has already surpassed the 1,000 yard career rushing mark, becoming just the 35th Falcon in school history to do so. Samuel currently ranks tied for 18th in school history with 1,569 rushing yards.

BGSU Tweet-fense
Below are 10 nuggets that you need to know about the BGSU defense, all under 140 characters.
• Leads the MAC in scoring defense (15.2)
• Leads the MAC in total defense (290.0) and is ranked eighth nationally.
• Leads the MAC in rushing defense (104.2)
• Leads the MAC in pass defense (185.8)
• Third in the MAC with nine interceptions
• Second in the MAC with two INT returns for touchdowns
• Second in the MAC with 25 sacks
• BG defense is allowing just 14.6 first downs a game (leads MAC)
• Leads the MAC in 3rd down defense (31.0%)
• Have allowed just three TDs in the last five games.
Hit Rock Bottom
Since falling 37-0 at Virginia Tech on Sept. 29, the Falcons have rattled off five straight wins on the back of its defense. Since then BGSU has allowed just three touchdowns.
First Four Last Five
26.0 Pts./game Allowed 6.6
75 (18.8) First Downs Allowed 56 (11.2)
150.5 Rushing Yards Allowed 67.2
242.2 Passing Yards Allowed 140.6
392.8 Total Offense 207.8
2 Interceptions 7
40% Third Downs 24%
9 Sacks 16
12 TDs Allowed 3
Breaking Even
Over the last five games the Falcons' defense has allowed just 33 points and only three touchdowns. During that same span the BGSU defense has matched the opposition in touchdowns with three. BooBoo Gates returned an interception for a score versus Miami, Dwayne Woods took one to the house at UMass, and Chris Jones recovered a fumble and rumbled into the end zone versus Eastern Michigan.
What Can Brown Do For You?
What can the Orange and Brown defense do to the opposing defense? Well, first off, they have not allowed a touchdown in nine quarters with a 24-0 shutout of UMass and a 24-3 win versus Eastern Michigan. The last time BGSU gave up a touchdown was on Oct. 13 when Miami's Zak Dysert completed a two-yard touchdown pass to Andy Cruse in the third quarter. Which means, when the Falcons play Ohio on Nov. 7 they will bring a 24 day stretch without allowing a touchdown. They will also enter that contest with a stretch of 144:17 without allowing a score (last 24:17 in the Miami contest and 60 minutes each in the UMass and EMU games).
Think That is Impressive?
Sure, over 144 minutes of action without allowing a touchdown is impressive, but when is the last time the Falcons allowed an extra point? That stretch dates back all the way to Oct. 6, when Akron's Robert Stein made an extra point with 9:47 left in the second quarter. The Falcons will enter the OU game with 14 straight quarters and a span of 219:47 without allowing an extra point.
Playing With A Lead
The last time the Falcons trailed in a game was midway through the third quarter versus Akron on Oct. 6. A Stephen Stein 26-yard field goal with 6:17 remaining in the third quarter versus the Zips knotted the score at 10-10. Since then, the Falcons have not trailed in a game, a span of 201:17 and have out-scored the opponent 99-15 in that span.
Monster of the MAC
Senior defensive tackle Chris Jones has been a demolition machine in 2012. Through nine games the senior has 31 tackles, 16.0 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks. Jones has already been named MAC East Defensive Player of the Week three times this year and leads the country with those 11.5 sacks.
Of the 31 tackles Jones has been involved with this season, 22 have resulted in no gain or negative yardage -- and the total minus yardage on those plays is minus-103 yards. The nine “positive” plays have gained just 27 yards (five (x2), three (x4) two (x2), one).
Doesn't Seem Possible
While most find it hard to believe that a defensive tackle has 11.5 sacks on the season all by himself, most may even find it harder to believe that Chris Jones' 11.5 sack are more than 22 teams have for the entire year! That's right Jones' 11.5 sacks are more than any of these BCS Teams:
Chris Jones 11.5
Texas Tech 11.0
Michigan State 11.0
Michigan 10.0
Iowa 9.0
Miami (FL) 9.0
Kansas 8.0
Virginia 7.0
Jones'n For Sacks
For the third straight year, Chris Jones has led the Falcons in sacks. The senior led BGSU with 6.0 sacks in 2010 and 8.5 sacks in 2011. This year his 11.5 sacks not only lead the team, they also lead the nation. The defensive tackle has 27.0 sacks in his career, and is beginning to stalk Kevin O'Brien's sack record of 31.0 from 1989-92.
BGSU Career Sack Leaders
Kevin O'Brien (1989-92) 31.0
Chris Jones (2009-PR) 27.0
Diyral Briggs (2005-08) 26.0
Devon Parks (2003-06) 22.0
BGSU Single Season Sack Records
Kevin O'Brien (1992) 19.0
Chris Jones (2012) 11.5
Diyral Briggs (2008) 9.5
Devon Parks (2006) 9.0
Mitch Crossley (2003) 9.0
Among Defensive Tackles
While Chris Jones does lead the country in sacks with 11.5, his lead is marginal compared to defensive ends or rush linebackers, but when you compare what Jones is doing against other defensive tackles, he has been remarkable.
Top Defensive Tackle Sack Leaders
Chris Jones (BGSU) 11.5
Will Sutton (Arizona St.) 8.5
Leonard Williams (USC) 5.5
* No other defensive tackles are ranked in the top-50 national leaders
Under Pressure
Chris Jones leads a defense that has been getting after the quarterback this season. In fact, the Falcons are second in the MAC with 25 sacks on the year.
Defense ... Clap, Clap
That pressure has helped the BG defense get off the field in a hurry. Dating back to the second half with Akron, the Falcon defense has either forced a turnover or a three-and-out in 27 of 44 drives. In those 27 drives the Falcons have allowed 127 yards on 79 plays (1.6 yds./play).
I Got It!
That same pressure has also started to produce turnovers, including 10 turnovers in the last three games. The Falcons, which rank fourth in turnover margin (+6) and turnovers forced (+17) in the MAC, forced three turnovers versus Miami, four versus UMass and another three versus Eastern Michigan.
Bring The Wood(s)
Middle linebacker Dwayne Woods is surpassed 300 career tackles last week versus the Eagles. The senior has 303 career tackles, recording 24 as a freshman in 2009, 134 in 2010, 111 in 2011 and 34 this season.
All Alone
In his career BooBoo Gates now owns two kick returns for touchdowns, one punt return for a score and has two pick-6's in his career, becoming the first Falcon in school history to own touchdown returns via kick, punt and interception returns.
Very Special Teams
Since head coach Dave Clawson arrived at Bowling Green, he and assistant coach Adam Scheier, have found a way to get the most out of the BGSU special teams. In four years Scheier's special teams have:
• Three kick returns for touchdowns.
• Three punt returns for scores.
• Have blocked 11 kicks.
• Produced two All-MAC returners (BooBoo Gates and Eugene Cooper).
• Produced two All-MAC Punters (Brian Wright and Brian Schmiedebusch)
• Successfully converted on two fake punts.
