No. 3: Why You Should Be At The Doyt Saturday!
November 15, 2012 | Football
Leading up to BGSU's final game in Doyt Perry Stadium of the 2012 season, the Bowling Green Athletics Department is counting down the top 10 reasons why fans should attend the game. Bowling Green will host Kent State on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Doyt with much on the line. Today, we introduce our No. 3 item.
No. 3 -- Because The Falcons Are Undefeated At Home
The last time Bowling Green went undefeated in Doyt Perry Stadium was 2004 and the Falcons will try to replicate that feat Saturday. Just like the bridge in the video below, BGSU has not lost a collision this year in Bowling Green, defeating Idaho, Rhode Island, Miami and Eastern Michigan while allowing just 9.0 points per game. The Falcons have outscored those four opponents by a combined total of 94 points.
No. 4 -- It's Senior Day
Saturday's game will serve as Senior Day for 14 Falcons. Austin Collier, Scott Hodges, Cory Johnson, Chris Jones, Mark Mays, Tim Moore, Matt Oczypok, John Pettigrew, Chip Robinson, Jordon Roussos, Stephen Stein, Bart Tanski, Dominique Wharton and Dwayne Woods will all be playing in their final game inside “The Doyt”. Combined, this senior class has 130 career starts, 485 rushing yards, 472 tackles, 31.5 sacks, 68 tackles for loss, four interceptions, 10 forced fumbles, eight touchdowns, 10 field goals and 46 extra points.
In honor of our seniors, let's watch a clip from Seinfeld in which a senior biker gang chases down George.
No. 5 -- It's Military Appreciation Day
Come out and show your support of our troops for Military Appreciation Day. If you are a service member or veteran, you can receive a free ticket to the game and family and friends receive a discounted ticket. There will be a handful of military related promotions, including the pregame band performance and presentation of the colors by the Marines. As well, the BGSU Bookstore will be giving 20 percent off to all active duty military or veterans in the Falcon Fanatic Tent at the game.
BGSU Head Coach Dave Clawson invites all of our military to the game through the video below.
No. 6 -- Revenge For The Last Two Years
In 2010, Kent State came into Doyt Perry Stadium and left with a 30-6 win over the Falcons and a year ago, the Golden Flashes posted a 27-15 win despite the fact that the Falcons had eight more first downs and more than 100 more yards of offense. As both programs have developed into MAC powerhouses this year, the Falcons will look to exact some revenge for the past two seasons.
When looking at ways to get revenge, who better to lean on than Conan O'Brien.
No. 7 -- There's A Small Chance Kent State Runs The Wrong Way
Kent State comes into Saturday's game with a record of 9-1 and an impressive string of eight straight wins. Among a litany of highlights throughout Kent State's season came one play that probably won't make the team's end-of-season highlight video. As Kent State rolled past Towson 41-21 in the season opener, the Golden Flashes (as well as Towson) got a bit confused. As you can see in the play below, the Golden Flashes got a 58-yard fumble return -- the wrong direction.
No. 8 -- Come See The Monster Of The MAC
Bowling Green senior defensive tackle Chris Jones will play his final game in Doyt Perry Stadium against Kent State. Dubbed "The Monster of the MAC", Jones leads the country in quarterback sacks and is second in tackles for loss. Jones has created havoc for opposing offenses all year long and there's no better opportunity to watch him up close and personal than on Nov. 17.
Posted below is a highlight video of Chris Jones.
No. 9 -- Get Free Stuff!
BGSU Athletics will be giving away a FREE knit winter hat to the first 500 students at the game. Also, in Wednesday's edition of the BG News, there will be a voucher for a FREE lunch (hotdog, bag of chips, and soda) redeemable at the Doyt.
In honor of the free knit winter hat, we bring you a scene from Dumb and Dumber that will make you feel warm and fuzzy inside.
No. 10 -- Come Root For BGSU To Win Back The Anniversary Award
In 1985, the Bowling Green and Kent State alumni departments created the Anniversary Award, given each year to the winner of the Bowling Green/Kent State football game. The two Universities are tied together as they were both founded in 1910 and the award began for the 75th anniversary of the institutions. Bowling Green is 20-6 against Kent State since the award was founded but the Golden Flashes have won each of the last two games and the Falcons would like to bring the award back home.
In honor of the Anniversary Award being founded in 1985, we bring you the music video to the Billboard No. 1 song from that year -- Careless Whisper by Wham!
