Dig This: Dunn Earns MAC Honors For Third Straight Week
October 15, 2012 | Volleyball
Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green State University junior defensive specialist Ashley Dunn has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week for the third consecutive week. Dunn had at least 24 digs in all three of the Falcons' five-set victories this week.
Bowling Green extended its winning streak to nine matches and improved to 8-0 in MAC play behind a stellar defensive week, anchored by Dunn. The Falcons had 112 digs, the most for the team since 2000, in a five-set midweek victory over Oakland as Dunn posted 25 digs and was perfect in 37 serve receive attempts.
Facing a pair of critical MAC contests over the weekend, BGSU again came up with five-set victories and Dunn was integral, posting 28 at Eastern Michigan and 24 more at MAC West leader Central Michigan. She averaged 5.13 digs per set and has a current streak of 24 or more digs in four consecutive matches, becoming the first player in BGSU history to do that.
Dunn earned the Defensive Player of the Week award for the fifth time in her career and it marks the fifth straight week in which a Bowling Green player has been awarded one of the league's Player of the Week honors.
Bowling Green returns home this weekend for a pair of MAC matches. The Falcons will try to hold onto their one-game lead in the MAC standings as the team hosts Ball State Friday night at 7 p.m. before hosting rival Toledo Saturday night at 7 p.m. televised locally on BCSN.
