Bowling Green State University Athletics

Falcon Club Spotlight: Jeff Rader
January 10, 2012 | General, Ice Hockey, Falcon Club
Beginning in January of 2012, the BGSU Department of Athletics will highlight a Falcon Club member each month. For the first spotlight, Bowling Green's own Jeff Rader has been selected. Jeff is highly involved in BGSU Athletics and has not missed a home football game since his freshman year of college in 1983. He has been a volunteer with the statistical crew for home hockey games for more than 10 years and serves on a number of BGSU boards.
Name: Jeff Rader
Occupation: Vice President with KeyBank in Toledo, Ohio
Hometown: Clyde, Ohio
Current Residence: Bowling Green, Ohio
Fondest Memory of BGSU Athletics: I have three: being a member of the Athletic Band in Lake Placid when the hockey team won the NCAA championship in 1984; being a part of the College Gameday crowd in 2003 when ESPN was on campus for the football game against #12 Northern Illinois (at the time undefeated); and attending the women's basketball “Sweet Sixteen” game in Greensboro, NC in 2007.
Favorite Music: Classical
Proudest Moment: I have three: Being a member of the Falcon Marching Band for all four years of college [serving as a trumpet squad leader my senior year]; receiving the Recent Graduate award from the BGSU Alumni Association in 1997; and serving on the BGSU Alumni Board of Directors.
Biggest Challenge: Not running late for appointments/meetings.
The Perfect Day: One that involves hockey [where I can play hockey myself as well as attend a Falcon hockey game] and great music [by one of the many outstanding ensembles from the College of Musical Arts, for example].
First Job: Being a stock boy at the local pharmacy in Clyde, Ohio.
Favorite Movie: Three of the all-time classics: “It's a Wonderful Life,” “Miracle on 34th Street,” and “Singin' in the Rain” [as a hockey fan, the original “Slap Shot” ranks up there as well].
Inspiration: My late parents, Richard and Jean Rader.
Favorite BGSU Athlete ever: Three of the best hockey players to ever wear the #19 sweater at BGSU: Nelson Emerson, Brian Holzinger, and Jamie Wansbrough.
Dream Job: Anything involving hockey.
If you could be friends with anyone in the world, it would be: I think I already have the best friends that I could ever expect to meet.
If you could pick one place to call home, it would be: Where I live: Bowling Green!
Favorite thing about BGSU: All the great people, so many of whom have become life-long friends.
Three items you can't live without: TV, Coca-Cola, and an Internet connection/my Droid Incredible.
Dream Vacation: Any place I can take great landscape or nature photographs [many parts of Ohio; Austria, Italy, and Switzerland].
Favorite Place in Bowling Green: Just about any place on campus, but a packed and loud Ice Arena for a Falcon hockey game in the winter and The Doyt to watch a Falcon football game [especially the Falcon Marching Band] on a sunny fall day.
Favorite Professional Team: Detroit Red Wings and Columbus Blue Jackets
Proudest Accomplishment: Receiving my bachelors ('87) and masters ('98) degrees from BGSU.
Recent Impulse Buy: Too many electronic toys to keep track of [computer-related and/or photography].
Favorite Food: Pizza or chicken.
Football Attendance Streak: I have attended every home football game (at least a part) since my freshman year ('83).
Something People Might Not Know About Me: I have kept stats for the Falcon hockey team for the past 10+ years; I played hockey with Gordie Howe at the Ice Arena in 1994 (I think he elbowed me); a photograph of mine from Simpson Garden Park in BG was published in Midwest Living Magazine's 2010 calendar; season ticket holder for volleyball, football, hockey, and women's basketball; Falcon Club member since '87.
BGSU Board Appointments: BGSU Alumni Board of Directors [including liaison to the BGSU Foundation Board]; Falcon Club Advisory Board (past president); BGSU Band Alumni Society Board of Directors (past president); BGSU Festival Series Board.
