Erika Stratton Named MAC East Player Of The Week
May 03, 2011 | Softball
Cleveland, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference office announced that Bowling Green freshman catcher Erika Stratton has been named the conference's East Division Softball Player of the Week. Stratton had one of the most remarkable games in BGSU history, leading the Falcons to a 12-inning 7-6 win over then-MAC leader Ball State.
After going 38 games to start her career without a home run, Stratton became the first player in program history to hit three in one game. Ball State built a 5-0 lead but Stratton's first homer got the Falcons on the board in the bottom of the third inning. She tied the score with a solo blast in the bottom of the sixth and won the game with a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 12th.
Stratton added a double in the eighth inning that helped the Falcons score a run after Ball State had taken the lead in extra innings and finished with 14 total bases, just two shy of the NCAA Division I record. Entering the 2011 season, there had been only two four-homer games in NCAA Division I history and 49 three-homer games.
Along with Stratton, Central Michigan's Molly Coldren was named West Division Player of the Week. Miami's Jessica Simpson was named East Division Pitcher of the Week and Ball State's Kim Mazzapica was named West Division Pitcher of the Week.
