Men's Golf Adds Three for 2012-13
November 22, 2011 | Men's Golf
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team and head coach Garry Winger are pleased to announce the signing of three student-athletes to begin play as freshmen in the 2012-13 season. Zac Brammer (Davison, Mich.), Holden Pahr (Chardon, Ohio) and Griffin Smith (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) will join six returning players when Winger begins his 15th season at the Falcons' helm next September.
Winger said, "I am very excited to add Griffin, Zac and Holden to the class of 2012. All three are outstanding young men and we are thrilled to add them to the Falcon family."
Zac (Zachary) Brammer is a two-time all-state honorable mention in Michigan and most recently won the award in 2011. He is only the third high school golfer ever to win the Genesee County golf championship twice and is just the second to do so in consecutive years. In 2011, his 18-hole score of 74 helped Davison win the team championship (304).
Brammer holds the Davison High School record for conference average and has won seven tournaments during his high school career. In conference tournaments, he has never finished worse than third.
Holden Pahr is a four-time first team all-conference selection and a two-time all-conference Most Valuable Player. He is also a three-time all-district honoree by the News-Herald. Pahr had nine-hole scores of 32 on four different occasions during high school matches. During the 2011 season, he posted a nine-hole average of 35.9 and shot 73.8 on average for every 18 holes.
Pahr also played varsity basketball for Chardon and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Griffin Smith is the current MHSAA Division II state champion. He won the championship event in June, as he shot a three-under-par 141 (70-71) at Michigan State University. His effort lifted Cranbrook-Kingswood to second place in the team standings. He also earned all-state honors from the Michigan Golf Coaches' Association. Smith's athletic experience extends beyond golf, as he has also played varsity soccer during high school.
Brammer, Pahr and Smith will replace three outgoing seniors from the 2011-12 Falcons. Parker Hewit, Bryan Mitchell and Drew Preston are each in their final seasons at Bowling Green. The six team members returning for 2012 are Spencer Berk, Torey Brummett, Joe Cooper, Wes Gates, Chris Melvin and Charlie Olson.
