Sheehan Interview with Todd Walker
Tyler Sheehan, a four-year member of the Bowling Green State University football team, has signed a free agent contract with the Houston Texans of the National Football League.
“Coach Clawson and his staff gave me every opportunity over the pass year to succeed,” said Sheehan. “The system they have in place not only allows players to showcase their talents, but it also prepares players for a chance at the next level.”
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native earned third-team All-MAC honors as a senior, throwing for school record 4,051 yards, completing 373 of 575 passes. He added a career-high 27 touchdowns under first-year head coach Dave Clawson, including scores in 22 straight contests, third-longest active streak in college football.
The senior threw for over 300 yards in nine of 13 games, including a school record 505 yards and four touchdowns versus Kent State in a 36-35 come-from-behind win. Sheehan added a nine-yard touchdown run on the game's final play in the win over the Golden Flashes.
In his final game Sheehan threw for a Humanitarian Bowl record 387 yards and four touchdowns versus Idaho. He added 300-yard games versus Troy (339), Marshall (383), Ohio (390), Ball State (376), Central Michigan (341), Buffalo (313) and Akron (338).
Sheehan earned several awards throughout the season, being named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week three times in 2009 (seven times in his career) and earned honorable mention College Football Performance Award twice.
Sheehan started 38 straight games to end his career, throwing for 10,117 yards and 70 touchdowns, both second-best in school history and completed 966 of 1,494 passes for a 64.7 percent completion percentage, all tops in the BGSU record books.
