RESULTS

The Bowling Green State University men's golf team shot an opening round 299 to sit in a tie for fourth after 18 holes of action at the Palmas Del Mar in Humacao, Puerto Rico. Monday's action was the first for the Falcons this Spring.

The 14-team field is led by USC Upstate, who carded a 9-under 279, to take a commanding 15 shot lead. Rollins is second (294), followed by Johnson & Wales (296), BGSU (299) and Old Dominion (299).

Senior Matt Schneider is tied for third after opening with a 2-under, 70 (36-34), while fellow classmate John Powers opened with an even-par, 72 (36-36), to sit in ninth.

Also competing for the Orange and Brown were Wes Gates (39-37--76, T-26th), Drew Preston (47-34--81, T-59th) and Scott Blackburn (39-42--81, T-59th).

A total of 82 competitors competed in round one.
