On the same day that the senior defenseman was recognized by the Central Collegiate Hockey Association for being one of 12 nominees for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Kyle Page is back in the headlines after signing a contract to play with the nearby Toledo Walleyes.
After a senior season with Bowling Green that featured him posting career marks in assists and points en route to a 17 point (3g, 14a) season, Page will lace up the skates with Chicago BlackHawk and Detroit Red Wing ECHL affiliate, Toledo Walleyes.
“I'm very proud that everything Kyle has brought to this team and the program,” said interim head coach Dennis Williams of the signing. “It really attributes to the type of player that he is. Being able to sign to a team that close to home is going to put him a very nice spot and he will do well for them.”
He also blocked a team and career-high 71 shots in 2009-10. As a freshman, Page was named to the 2006-07 CCHA All-Rookie Honorable Mention team. He has also been honored with the BGSU Jim Ruehl Award three seasons in a row, recognizing the team's best defensive player. Earlier today, the CCHA announced that Page was one of twelve finalists selected to be named the 2009-10 Scholar-Athlete of Year.
The Wixom, Mich. native has been a starter for the Brown and Orange all four years that he has been a Falcon, twice being named the team captain as a junior and senior. In 146 games with BGSU, Page scored seven goals and 29 assists (36 points). Four of his seven career goals were scored on the power play. He will graduate this year with a degree in sport management.
